Hi,

Am I correct in thinking that the Thermaltake Geforce FX cooler replaces the FX Ultra fan blower :?:

Since using the first Geforce version released (Geforce 256, before they used DDR ram :o ) I have always had the idea that when it came to getting my next PC I would stick with Nvidia.
However, because of the noise/heat issue I am now considering ATI, but if I could silence the FX Ultra beast then I might stick with Nvidia.

Regards
Anne
( :( needed to sell my Geforce PC, now currently running a noisy 233 MMX with a PowerVR card :( )

I am a Gainward fan though.
It says this under the Gainwards features.
" Supporting 128MB high-speed 256bit DDR II RAM memory"
That would make it the best performing graphics card, If it's true.
You can always mod the cooler if you don't like it. Maybe a Zalman with tweakmonster ramsinks and a panaflo, or that Thermaltake one if it comes out. Or if you have watercooling then your set.
Also the Gainward Geforce FX 5600 (the lower end one) comes with 256mb of memory. And smaller fan.

Gainward geforce FX Ultra Watercooled

Post by Badashmods » Wed Mar 12, 2003 7:07 pm

Gainward is supposedly going to put a watercooled version on the market. They have pics of the prototype here. Maybe it will be 256mb also. Since the radeon 9800 256mb comes out in april.

Unless you just wanna burn money there is NO reason to buy anything other than a ti4200 from nvidia right now. If your on an extreme budget and want to build a gaming rig I would get a ti4200. The 9500pro is nice too but its only good if your going to be running AntiAliasing otherwise its barely better than a ti4200. The 9700pro is the next step up and is a pretty good buy if you have that extra $100 to burn. But I could not justify buying a gffx that runs slower than a 9700pro on almost every benchmark ive seen, and costs $100 more.

ti4200 $115-125
radeon 9500pro $175-185
9700 pro $275-300
GFFX $375-400 (WAY too expensive for the performance you get)

Im a big Nvidia fan too Anne but they dropped the ball bigtime. Its hard to justify buying anything other than a ti4200 from them right now. I just wish that ATI would hurry up and cut their prices again so I can afford a 9700pro.

I'm thinking of doing something like this with my Geforce FX 5800 Ultra. Don't know when it will be available but you could make it now with the current Zalman heatpipe I'm sure. The only thing I haven't found out about yet is weather the card will down clock itself to 2d speeds if you remove the FX Flow and/or if theres a way to get around that. The Gainward FX may be set up different. The reason I want one is first of all ATI drivers are crap and I'll never buy another ati. Doesn't mean I won't buy another card besides nvidia if a better card comes out but it won't be an ati. The main reason I want one is because I like to max the AA and AF in my games and still have them run smoothly.
