Ryzen 7 2700x

Post by eperdos » Thu Feb 07, 2019 12:34 pm

Hello,

I have a ryzen 7 2700x cpu and want 2 things: to keep it cool enough to get get max performance out of it and to cool it silent as possible. Can someone suggest a coooler that will do the job?

(also ideal would be to be usable for future ryzen 3700x when released).

Thanks!

All the following coolers should cool fine a 2700x

Scythe Mugen 4 RevB
Thermalright Macho RevB
Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power

All of them retail around $50, which imo is the sweetspot for a good performance cooler. If you want to spend more, know that you will marginally upgrade to the point that to many of us here are not worth the premium over $50.

What about scythe ninja 5? Seems quiter than mugen. Also none of the 3 mentioned aren't on stock and I wouldn't wait 2 weeks for estimated delivery.

If you're willing to pay Scythe Ninja 5 money then I would suggest the AMD AM4 mount specific Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro TR4. At least a couple of reviews I have seen suggest that it is a better performer than the Ninja 5, particularly with overclocked CPUs. The all-black finish is a bonus. Like the Ninja 5 the size may create ram slot conflicts, with the usual solutions of using low profile and/or only using 2 out of the 4 motherboard ram slots.

TR4 is for Threadripper, not for 2700x.

you have to be a little careful with the ninja as it will overlap with the memory, usually standard profile memory will be fine, but memory like Gskill Flare (best memory for AMD) or TridentZ will not fit unless you install the fan higher, if you are willing to spend more, consider Noctua NH-U14S, to me are great cooler, just more expensive.

Be Quiet Dark Pro 4 is a great cooler and can be found for $75.
