After removing the dust from my PC case, I noticed my PC was running quieter than normal. Pleased, I looked into the PC case... and saw that the CPU fan had stopped working. Unplugging & replugging the fan power cord didn't get it working again.
Now I want to replace just the broken fan of the Scythe Mugen 3. The fan is apparently a Scythe Slip Stream PWM 120 fan with an rpm of "300 (± 180) ~ 1600 (± 10%)".
Which leads me to this question: Can I replace the broken CPU fan with any random fan of dimensions 120x120x25 mm, or do I have to keep something else in mind? For instance, can all fans be mounted on that cooler?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Broken Scythe Mugen 3 Fan - Possible Replacements?
Welcome to SPCR.
Are you sure it's the fan and not the fan header or a BIOS issue? Have you tried connecting the fan directly to the PSU?
If you need to replace it, there are 120mm PWM Slipstream fans available online (US listings).

If you want similar,MondSemmel wrote:Now I want to replace just the broken fan of the Scythe Mugen 3. The fan is apparently a Scythe Slip Stream PWM 120 fan with an rpm of "300 (± 180) ~ 1600 (± 10%)".
Scythe Slip Stream 120mm x 25mm PWM Fan - 200 ~ 1600 RPM (SY1225SL12LM-P)
Scythe Glide Stream 120mm x 25mm PWM Fan - 300 ~ 1900 RPM (SY1225HB12SH-P)
Niether is the exact model, the Slipstream that came on the Mugen3 was the H or high, so was the 300-1900rpm version (at least from what i remember), the one that i linked is the SM (slow mid) thats the 200-1300 (from what i remember). And now the Mugen4 changed it, it comes with the lower speed glidestream.... again from what i remember, so its not the same as i linked above as thats the glidestream H. Either way im sure either works, just chose the range you want it to operate.
You should be able to mount any standard 120, i mounted a Scythe KamaFlex2 on my Mugen3, but there might be some special fans that could have issues, depending on how its mounted, some have solid sides, but very few.MondSemmel wrote:Which leads me to this question: Can I replace the broken CPU fan with any random fan of dimensions 120x120x25 mm, or do I have to keep something else in mind?
