Ok basically this is my new build


C2D E6750
Thermaltake 120 extreme
Nexus Real Silent Fans – 120mm Rear, 120mm cpu, 2 x 92mm Front, 1 x 92mm GPU
Antec Sonata Plus 550 (inc NeoPower 550w PSU)
Geforce 8800 GT 512mb
HR-03 GT (apparently coming out around December)
Gigabyte P35-DS3R rev 2.0
PC6400 2x1gb Corsair XMS2 DHX
Samsung Spinpoint HD501LJ 500GB



Now the only area Im unsure on is all the fans. As recommended by silentpcreview, I think im going to be going with all nexus real silent fans. Quite a few in fact, 5. The question is - "How should I go about controlling them?" Preferably I would want them running low speed when not gaming, but to speed up automatically when required. Is that even possible?

Also is a 120mm nexus real silent fan sufficent for the cpu for high overclocks (my goal is 3.5ghz)? Or i should i go for the scythe sflex 1600rpm for the higher airflow, but with the trade off of more noise?



Anyway over to you, any feedback, criticism, suggestions or ideas welcome.

i don't see any problems with nexus' for your setup, i'm cooling an x6800 with those

you could run the system flawlessly with 3 fans.
-one intake/hdd/lower area
-one CPU
-one exhaust

the CPU and exhaust should be 120mm fans, the intake could be a 92mm.

i don't see why you would need more than that. you don't need to put a fan somewhere just because there's a place for it on the case, thats just overkill and wasteful in some ways. the power supply has a fan as well, so there's no need to worry about having so many fans in the system.computers get warm on their own, unless you're running some massive overclock and two monster graphics cards and you're gaming whenever the computer is on, its completely unnecessary. fans add to noise, no matter how silent [because of resonance and backpressure] so too many fans is a problem. the most you may want would be to have 4, one on the CPU, one on the GPU, intake, exhaust. past that, a 5th fan isn't necessary at all.

you could control them via Speedfan, or a Zalman Fanmate, or a 5.25" bay fan controller. motherboard controlling will only ramp them up when there's more heat, not necessarily load.

Yep Im with you on the intake, 2 did seem overkill i was just with the assumption as there were 2 mounts i should go for 2 intakes.


Now the only other question is, when using the thermalrite HR03 is it best to position it on the top side of the graphics card so it pushes the air from the gpu towards the CPU heatsink/fan (and then out the case), or point down into the bottom of the case. I cant seem to find the answer anywhere. On 1 side if it points up, the hot air from the gpu may make it harder to keep the cpu temp down, or if it points down there may be a pocket of hotter air in the bottom of the case??? what do you think??? thanks for all your help btw
