TDP: 35.0 Watts

This chip was originally intended to be an overclocker, and while being pretty good it was never spectacular, unless you're talking about the temps. So after just checking the TDP, I'm not suprised. It also runs stock speed stable @ 1.25-1.30v

Note: This CPU came with the Aluminum cooler with 70mm fan (no heatpipes). Is there any correlation between the CPU's stock cooler and it's TCaseMax?

The 4200+'s undervolted and overclocked to 1.25v and 2.42GHz.

Same as geforce1. Currently on 1.25V and looking to reduce it. I don't understand what the two different TDP figures mean.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Manchester) Rev BH9-E4, 1.350v, 63C, 65.6 Watts

TCaseMAX is equal to the CPU power drawn at max Vcc Icc, multiplied by the thermal junction resistance of the CPU package (and stock heatsink presumably), and added to the reference ambient temperature, as chosen by AMD, of 42 oC.

TCaseMAX = (TDP * 0.32 C/W) + 42 = 65.5 * .35 + 42 = 63

http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/30430.pdf

Its the maximum temperature the CPU is going to return at full load at stock frequencies and voltages with the stock heatsink working properly and a case temperature of 42 degrees. But actually its just the TDP expressed as a temperature. Its not related to the maximum safe operating temperature of the CPU package.

Now, high TDP means more leakage current and hotter chips both idle and under load. Can someone explain why the hotties overclock better? Intuitively I would have expected the opposite.

Do "hotties" really overclock better? Take Conroe for example, it's the coolest Intel chip for a generation and it is an overclocking marvel; 100% OC no sweat.

I got an odd one for you. The processor in question is 4200 X2 65W. All other software identifies it correctly...

AMD64 TCaseMax - v1.19
----------------------

CPU Information (CPU #1):
Standard CPUID: Family: F, Model: B, Stepping: 2
Extended CPUID: Family: F, Model: 4B, Stepping: 2
CPUID String: 40FB2
Processor APIC: 0
Processor: Low-Power Mobile AMD Sempron 4100+ (Unknown)
CPU Speed: 2210.23 (200.93 x 11.0)
Revision:
Platform: Socket 939
Startup VCore: 1.100v
Maximum Case Temperature = 49C

EDIT: I found Mats post from april 18th which explains some things about this chip:

Quote:
Hot running, can do over 3 GHz.

How to find out the thermal profile:
1 - Find the CPU in this document, A64 = page 30, FX = 56, X2 = 91.
2 - The thermal profile is a letter (row 5 if present).
3 - You find the corresponding themal profile on page 10 for A64, FX = 51, X2 = 86.
Opteron here, with the corresponding pages 25, and 10 - 11.

According to this document my chip has a TDP of 21.9 o_O

I just replaced an 89W X2 4400+ with this 175. It runs 2500 MHz at 1.35v as opposed to 1.425v for the X2.
