Hello all:
I frequent this site a lot to get the latest news in silent computing. I must say, I absolutely love the articles here. The "recommended" articles are probably the best feature on this site with the. The best part about articles are the MP3 recordings - those help me a lot in picking components.
On my most recent personal build, I decided to build a high power gaming PC with an emphasis on both silence AND performance. I went with the top recommendations on power supply, fans and heatsinks. My only exception is the case. I contemplated for a while whether to get an Antec P182 or a Lian-Li PC-65b. The reason I got the Lian Li is mostly for the style.
Here's some pics:
Entire system. (Thermalright ultra-120 extreme on its way).
Jerry-rigged hard drive suspension. 2x WD2500KS drives from my older computer. I suspended them with rubber bands for two years on my old case and I never had problems with the bands drying or cracking.
Strips of electrical tape line the place where the panels meet the chassis. Works well enough for me since the only component that produces vibration on the case is the single Nexus 80mm exhaust. Even with super-soft grommets, these things can still vibrate the case!
Jerry-rigged 2x80mm Nexuses on a VF-1000 installed on an 8800GTS 640. More details here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r196314 ... ded-VF1000 and here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19559544-
Anyway, I'd like to thank SCPR for providing me with a whole new dimension of computing - silence. It's eerie now that I can barely hear my computer. Because it's so quiet now, I often wake up in the morning to press the power button and helplessly watch my computer shut-off (I leave the front panel LEDs off).
