Akasa for an ASRock Q2900 Motherboard
Hi,
I'm looking to build a completely silent and fanless system to run Asterisk for my business.
I'm planning on building the system around ASRock's new Q1900TM-ITX which is a mini-itx motherboard with a Celeron Quad Core 2.4Ghz CPU. They also have a micro-itx model. I'm not sure which one would be the smallest. I'm assuming mini-itx is smaller than micro-itx?
Anyway, I've found the Akasa cases to be really nice.
They have cases made for mini-itx systems but their NUC cases seem to be even smaller. So I was wondering if Akasa's NUC cases like this one: http://www.akasa.com.tw/update.php?tpl= ... -NUC10-A1B would play nice with my Asrock motherboard? Or if you guys had a better recommendation that would be appreciated too...

NUC is smaller than mini-ITX. I used a mesh alike case I found on an auction. There are similar Antec cases. Fanless and open design.

Re: Akasa for an ASRock Q2900 Motherboard
for that board with no fan, id recommend the m350 case (even more mesh) for $39,bolts right on the back of most monitor mounts. (VESA)
sizes of mobos,
Mini ATX (28.4cm × 20.8 cm) 11.2 × 8.2 in
Micro-ITX is a (17 × 17 cm) 6.7 × 6.7 in (this board is generally just called an itx in most communities, because nano-itx and pico -itx never really took off.)
NUC products (~10 × 10 cm) ~ 4x4"

This would be the smallest of the Q2900 series' I believe: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Q2900-ITX/ it's a mini-itx.
I'd actually love to make it work with these nice Akasa cases, their build quality looks really good and they seem to do a good job keeping the system cool. Which of the Akasa cases would work though?
I think the Akasa Euler S is also made for mini-itx motherboards. Would that work?
Last thing, I'd love to hear you guys' PSU recommendation.

Re: Akasa for an ASRock Q2900 Motherboard
You need to make up your mind. Either start with the case you want and pick a suitable motherboard, or start with the motherboard and pick a suitable case. I doubt you'll find Q2900-ITX on the list of compatible motherboards for the Euler S.
For something with stock passive cooling like the Q2900-ITX you want something as open as possible. Lots of mesh that has already been mentioned.
The Euler S is made for a low power system that normally wouldn't have passive cooling.
A picoPSU with a good brick would be a good PSU for a low power system like this.

I definitely will be getting the q-2900 so it's just a matter of finding a small, nice case for it.
So far, it seems that the q-2900 isn't even for sale anywhere yet so I guess I have time to figure things out.

Re: Akasa for an ASRock Q2900 Motherboard
I just placed the order for the Q2900-ITx.
I need to really figure out a case for it now. So, the Euler S would definitely not work?
Would you guys have a specific PSU that you would recommend?

Re: Akasa for an ASRock Q2900 Motherboard
End up getting a case? The M350 or Antec ISK110 would be good and the Antec comes with a supply+ brick. M350 can be had bundled with supply. I used a Lone Industries L1 for mine but those are out. Running Linux mint on it, really fast. I'm running with a Toshiba 30W brick but my DCDC PSU is way overkill. Kill-A-Watt at the wall is 12.75-22W, bare brick is 12W alone. So this motherboard sips power.habusho wrote:I just placed the order for the Q2900-ITx.
