Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
My new build is in an NZXT h440
I like the case well enough (though it needs some under-volting of the intake fans)
But my wife wants to move the PC onto a shelf - with 16.5" clearance.
I don't want to rebuild around a micro-ATX form factor, so I'm looking for 'shorter' full ATX cases.
I have a 280mm H110 Corsair radiator the needs to be accommodated!
There are a few cube style (horizontal MB) - but even the Corsair 540 seems too tall
the Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO is one option - but is so well ventilated, i'm worried noise will be an issue.

ANY other suggestions - as i said - 16.5 inch at the height
THANKS!!!

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
Is this one of the PCs that's getting a gaming gfx card in another thread? A case that will handle 100W quietly is different than a case that can handle 250W quietly.
Going to need a better physical description than 16.5" height limitation. What are the other dimensions? Is this shelf in a cabinet or free standing / open?

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
Yes, this is eventually going to have a graphics card as well.
And it will be in a cabinet, though the back is open. Depth and width won't be an issue, hence looking at the HAF XB.

IIRC our co-forumer doveman should have recently built (June 2014?) a quiet gaming system inside the HAF XB: you might drop him a PM, in case.
Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
Thanks for the tips!
while it would work, I find the CoolerMaster HAF XB EVO pretty unappealing...
The Silverstone GD09/10 would work, but i already have the GD09 as an HTPC downstairs...
and it appears to be the only option.
Now, I'm leaning towards replacing the motherboard and going with a micro-ATX build instead.
I really over-built this machine anyway!!
I think I will sell the h110 280mm radiator, as it limits case options
However, even many microATX cases are too tall. The Define R5 is about 18" height, plus buttons on top won't work if it was close to fitting. I'm just starting to research > cube options seem to be the best form factor with the 16" height limitation.
Any suggestions?
I could live with the Node 804

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
Since we don't know the other physical limitations, I'll add these constraints to your list:
- best to go with front to back cooling as the only open surface is the back of the cabinet. You will be generating 200+W while gaming, and the heat needs to go somewhere other than staying inside the cabinet. Otherwise, the system will be loud and hot.
- you'll want a minimum of 1" and preferably 2" of clearance between any obstruction and any intake fan to maximize airflow.
- you'll want ~4" or more between any obstruction and any exhaust fan to maximize airflow.

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
The Node804 is more probably that not a good option: another one could be the 15" tall Jonsbo W2 (available in Europe as Cooltek W2, while in North America as Rosewill Legacy W2), there's a review on TechPowerUp!bkoehn wrote:cube options seem to be the best form factor with the 16" height limitation.

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
That W2 looks perfect
I love it!!
Only problem is, nobody is selling it?!
I'll hold out as long as I can, and send out some inquiries to newegg
not sure i'm willing to fork over the surcharge for shipping from Europe, but that looks like the case i've been dreaming of
Thanks for the find!!

While you're waiting for any answer by Rosewill, you may try if Jonsbo itself can help you (that's what I'd do): http://jonsbo.com/en/contact.html

Re: Cooler Master: HAF XB EVO
I run the HAF XB EVO. I didnt know much about it when I bought it but once I started the build I was super impressed at how well thought out it was. Now i can remove the mobo in about 45 seconds and i dont even need a screwdriver, its brilliant!
