SLI systems have to have the space to fit the two slot ultra coolers so an aftermarket cooler shouldn't be a problem. I would tend to recomend the Zalman VF700-Cu as it's a good cooler and fairly quiet, but in an SLI rig the first card is gonna be starved of air So I think a Thermalright V-1 would b...

Prime95 will test you cpu, memory and chipset stability, it's pretty much the best stress test for this and will pick up on even the slightest fault. For video card stability I recomend ATITool, even for nvidia cards. The artifact detection tool still works and is a good way to test if you have gone...

well the 330 would do it, but you would probably get by with a super silencer/tornado, of which the 300W units would be plenty

Thats either a coppermine or tualatin core so you're looking at low power requirements, a 250W psu would be plenty, but they aren't easy to source That Fortron would be a good choice, as for the Sonata PSU, apart from being overpowered, they aren't silent even on the lowest setting and the efficienc...

I do think it will help a little, it's just it's the most expensive thing you are getting, and likely to make the least differance. Acoustic foam makes sense if you are going all out no holds barred for silencing, but on a budget it's not the most effective measure I'd expect that with that setup, o...

I'd say yes to the fans, Arctic Silver and VF700-CU Don't know about the cable braiding kit, you could just get a load of cheap zip ties and do the same job but not look as pretty As for the acoustipack, I would consider it if your case is aluminium, if it's steel it's hard to say, with mostly 120mm...

It's not uncommon for a winchesters idle temp to be below the system temp, remember that northbridge only has a dinky little heatsink/fan combo on it and depending on your cooler some of the cpu's heat is being blown onto the motherboard.

I'd say go with a 350W model, the 300W would probably suffice but better safe than sorry. For that system you wouldn't need the ATX2 S12 unless you want a psu that could handle a possible full system overhaul. As for Tornado vs. Silencer it all dpends on your case setup, it's hard to say which would...

A 6600 doesn't clock as well as a 6600GT, you can overclock a 6600GT to 550-600mhz, a 6600 will do 500-550mhz

Actually 6600's aren't that hot, they are on 110nm process so even the 6600GT runs reletively cool. The 6200 is a very good card for pci-e, but the agp version makes little sense as it's just not cheap enough. Go for a decent 128bit memory interface 6600, they overclock to at least 500mhz meaning on...

I'm a little lost. You're talking about the header on the motherboard labled NB_FAN? this is where the fan on the chipset should be attached, which should be a 2pin connector. Have you removed the fan or does your board have a passive chipset cooler?

Yesterday I stopped my CPU fan to see what would happen. In about 5-10 minutes my CPU temp only rose 5*C to 35*C. I take it thats at idle though. I also think exhausting from the rear exhaust would be the better option, it allows a bigger fan, so more air will be shifted. Make sure you have an intake fan in this configuration though, as you will be restricting the fan to the point where it may not create enough negative pressure to bring much...

Yes it will work (which is why the pci-e 4x slot is open ended as pci-e is scalable, you can tape up up to 15 of the channels and a card will still work, in fact there is pretty much no performance gain above 4x mode any way.

I do believe the fan speed varies, but the stock cooling on radeons is far from silent, though not as bad As an X850XT or 6800Ultra it will still be audible and prominant. HIS do a version with an Arctic Cooling ATI silencer, this will be quieter than a stock cooler, and also a better cooler.

Woh! don't disconnect the exhaust fan, you'll cook your components quicker than you can say damn that was a silly thing to do :)
Get a couple of zener diodes and solder them into the fans + line, this should bring the voltage down to 3V and the fan will be near enough silent

I don't think there are any cards that fit the pci-e1x slots, nor can I see any being produced, but theoretically you could install any pci-e card in one by modifying the slot to allow the added length of the pci-e connector to fit. erm, that's like saying you can put a Winchester in an s754 mb if ...

Dropping the memory speed does usually allow for tighter timings. For instance my corsair value select at DDR400 manages 2.5-3-3-5 1T, dropped down to DDR333 it allows 2-2-2-5 1T but performance is much much better at 400mhz

To be honest the 3000+ is a better buy, your talking about increase of 30% in cost, for like 8% performance and yes you should be able to overclock easily to 3500 speeds and probably quite a bit higher.
