Just another stupid method... but I used my tin snips and gouged out the corner bits then filed them down. Probably just as quick as a hacksaw but a bit messier.

I understand how you feel about the fanless VGA. I also read the story of someone frying or cracking their chip in the forums and I was a bit concerned because I couldn't find any evidence that said "this heat sink works on the Leadtek 6600GT." I took a chance but it wasn't that difficult to install...

I have to say good choices since I just built a system and we chose the same brands for quite a few things.. motherboard, heatsink, video card, hard drive. However I think you could reconsider your fan choices. Why go with a fanless PSU and then throw 6 fans at it in the system? In my similar setup,...

It's too bad manufacturers can't be bothered to include the $0.04 floppy with the drivers on it already.

BOT>> What did you snip? My Sonata is a bit different from yours; my hard drive cage is more open than the photo you showed. Sorry I don't have a pic of it, but taking the panel off of a full case is a bit of a pain :) Here is a photo of the part I cut out of the bezel. This is the bottom of the cas...

does anybody know if nForce4 mobos support NCQ? does a mobo need to? The integrated controllers do need to, and I'm 99% certain the Nforce4 does. However after reading a bit about the feature, using NCQ in a desktop environment is a waste as the reads done are usually quite sequential and do not ne...

I've got two 250 DM10's with the 16MB cache. They do not run hot at all (32c and 30c right now). The DM9's that they replaced ran much, much hotter and were a bit louder. I have them suspended but with AAM turned off; you can hear the seek noise, but I value the performance. I wouldn't judge the DM1...

...removing the slot cover one below helps. FYI. Rear grill I didn't think it made much noise or limited airflow - until I cut it. It's hard to imagine the effect. Much like drive suspension. You never know what you've missed until you've done it. Thanks for the advice! I probably will cut out the ...

edit: I just noticed in the pics that the Chaintech soundcard is missing from the PCI slot. I forgot to put it in before I took the photos. I also removed the second set of SATA cables that was going up to the front panel.. I'll never use them and can always hook it up if I want to. Also, it's tough...

Does your Aerocool panel remember your custom alarm settings? I have an Enermax temp monitor/fan controller and everytime I turn off the PC, it dumps my temp alarm settings so that the next time I turn the system on I have to reset the alarm. Well I just did some more reading on the panel si...

>> Very nice job High praise, thank you! >> Smart velcro trick! It worked in a pinch. I'm sure I'll mess around with foam or elastic, but I don't know how much quieter the Maxtors can be until I take them out of performance seek mode. Very nice drives (near Raptor speed) and (subjectively) quiet. I ...

Re: some new modifications

Anyway the pc seems to work well with the new roof , I’ll come back with more data after running it a few days. Beautiful system! Luckily I can hide my A/V system under a kitchen cabinet and not worry what it sounds or looks like. However, I did prefer your box with the original top. I thought it w...

Sonata - 3 x Nexus, XP-90, Fanless 6600GT... now it's quiet

1st post here... another newbie drawn into silent computing by fantasy tales of a "quiet" piano-black Antec case. Not that I am blaming the jet engine P4 heatsink or the whiny 6600 GT fan on Antec, but when I finished assembling my new PC, I was underwhelmed by it's silence. Not anymore! http://img9...
