I'd grab the X2 3800+, anything faster isn't necessary -- this should be plenty of power for now and the near future. 60-65w seems to be the norm for Socket 939 Athlon64 X2 power consumption. I wonder... the X2 4200+ is not so far from the X2 3800+ price-wise. And this will probably be the last pow...

The choice will depend on what you want to do with it ? gaming ? video encoding ? HTPC ? This is a pretty multipurpose setup, which does linux spam filtering most of the day, video encoding/decoding the evening (well, used to, will again as soon as I take the time to fix my config, and windows gami...

Which 939 cpu to get now ?
Hi, I have this 55 € refund I need to exercise within 10 days, so I figured given AMD just slashed its processor prices, and it's soon my birthday I may as well indulge in a processor upgrade (AMD64 3500+ now). Which processor do you recommend? The street prices here are : AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+: ...

Re: s939 nForce4 board recomendations
I'm going to be build a higher-end S939 system and need some recommendations on solid nForce4 boards that would be well suited to a powerful yet as near silent as possible system. The Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra9 is fully passive and has bios control of at least the CPU Fan (I have Nexus fans here which ...

* You can use Power Management and Speedfan to turn off Hard drives/fans when they're not needed. Actually for hard drives at least spin up / spin down can be very dangerous if you care about reliability. A drive that spins all day round will last much longuer than in a typical desktop/laptop use (...

Resonance is a function of stiffness, all right, but it is also a function of mass. Has anyone mass-loaded an aluminum case with sheet lead or lead/vinyl? I have an old (3 years-old) Lian-Li case with thin aluminium sheets, lots of holes and 80mm fans (at the time my previous box had just died on m...

On a related topic there is a similar thread on the HTPCnews case forum with at least one manufacturer participating http://htpcnews.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10356 (HTPC cases must be silent and integrate in the audio-video installation ie they have even more constraints than silent PCs) Even ...

How about you start with putting your location in your profile? That way people can give you better advice since not everything is availlable all over the world. I'd use a quiet notebook HD (Fujitsu or Samsung) as system drive. Won't happen ;) I do care about data safety, so RAID 1 or 5 is mandatory for me. Notebook PC's are underperforming and expensive - I'd rather spend the money on 512 or 1024 GB of memory so the system runs from RAM most of the time (L...
