I used to have an Abit IC7-G motherboard. The Zalman NB heatsinks don't come with the mounting hooks that your motherboard uses for the NB heatsink. But there is a way to construct your own - see this thread . As for me, I was lazy, so I just unplugged the NB fan, and it worked fine. That may or may...

Mounting a 120mm Nexus on a Silverstone NT01?
I have a Silverstone NT01, and I'd like to strap a 120mm Nexus on it.
The mounting holes of course don't fit (as they were designed for 2x60mm fans...). I'm thinking of using zip-ties, but does anyone have better ideas?

The SPCR P180 review has a sample build with a Phantom.
You'll definitely need a fan in the bottom chamber, otherwise you'll have no airflow in there at all. The Phantom needs a little bit of airflow to keep cool.

I had an Abit IC7-G, and I can attest that the northbridge fan is the most annoying thing ever :) I bought a Zalman NB47J to replace it, but mounting it was a problem as the original cooler uses mounting hooks, and the NB47J does not have mounting hooks. I didn't want to use epoxy, and I was too laz...

Thanks for the info! So it means the failure of a PSU to stay on may very well be the result of a flakey motherboard... I did a bit more testing last night. I found an old power supply, which is a bit underpowered on the 12V line for this system (but it should at least run for a few seconds). When I...

Unfortunately I have no spare PSU to test with :( I tried shorting the green and black wires to turn the PSU on (with a few fans plugged in, of course). The PSU stays on while the wires are connected, and turns off immediately when I disconnect the wires. Something else I noticed: when plugged into ...

dead PSU? (probably not)
My system: Abit IC7-G, P4 3.0 (Northwood), Radeon 9500 (with Zalman heatsink), Samsung SP0812C HDD No-name PSU modded with a slower fan controlled by a temperature controller that I made picture The way things are set up, the hot air from the CPU goes directly into the PSU. The temperature inside th...

Quiet 1.8" laptop drives?
I have a laptop (Toshiba Portege 2000) which is unusual in that it uses a 1.8" hard drive (Toshiba MK2003GAH). The problem is, this thing is LOUD - idle whine is quite noticeable, and seeks are audible from across the room.
Now I would like to replace it. Are there any quiet 1.8" drives out there?

I have an Abit IC7-G motherboard which has the same noisy chipset fan. I just leave it unplugged, and it appears to work fine (I don't overclock). Later on I added a Zalman ZM-OP1 on my video card, which also directs a bit of airflow towards the chipset. You can see a picture here . I don't know if ...
