Re: ADATA XPG SX300 128GB & Intel 525 Series 180GB mSATA SSD

There's not going to be any more drop in performance than there would be with a poor quality cable. All there is is a power IC on the adapter board and that's most likely there to cope with SATA power connectors that don't supply 3.3v.

Anything that doesn't require those interfaces to be permanently connected. I can use any of those through USB adaptors if it were necessary.

Re: Credit card sized Atom motherboard

No, there's nothing particularly exotic to get the power down, it's an Z530 Atom with US15W (Poulsbo) as the chipset rather than one of the more power hungry chipsets (945, ION etc.). To be sure, quite a few things are turned off (Audio (no codec), LAN (no transformer), SATA (no connector), PCI Expr...

Re: Credit card sized Atom motherboard

It's a single core. There's no particular reason why it couldn't be made a dual core, but at the moment, it just isn't. What angles do you want pictures of? As for ROHS compliance, yes it is. I won't publish the schematics however, since this is part of a commercial product. I thought people here mi...

Credit card sized Atom motherboard

http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/4193/p1030904copy.th.jpg My handiwork in shrinking computer motherboards has reached a new low. That's a normal sized credit card in the background, not a photoshopped one! Probably needless to say at this size, but it's got no moving parts and is therefore comple...

Duplicati does have some issues (I would rate its issues with locked files and only copying the main file stream to be the worst) -however most of the commercial (file based) backup software I have examined has had these two as well. It's probably worth looking at the issues tab to see if any of the...

Wow that was a quick answer, thanks very much. I will look into that software, looks OK on the surface, but no mention (after a very quick read) of it being "Incremental", which is a must when the data set is measured in gigabytes. Andy Duplicati is incremental, only the changed parts of changed fi...

I wouldn't read too much into that, the "conventional" blade that they use for comparison would be most unlikely to be used in any current helicopter -the comparison is not dissimilar to comparing the noise from an early 7.2K HD to an SSD because they have roughly similar capacities. Valid; but not ...

From my experience, USB hubs are often of questionable quality (particularly the AC adaptors shipped with them) but I know of no good way to evaluate without taking the adaptor apart. It's actually a Toradex Robin (84x55mm). As is usually the case, miniaturization is not cheap -- http://www.toradex.com/En/Products/Robin_Z530_Z510 Certainly not cheap. However, it's not as bad value as it first appears, because it has integrated RAM, flash and PSU. Comparing this to (for example) ...

New Atom + Poulsbo motherboard arrived -no moving parts

Some people here may remember my obsession with small to tiny motherboards, even if they're not always silent (or in the case of the Via Pico ITX, really very loud). But I think my new very, very small motherboard might be of interest to people here; it has no moving parts whatsoever; integrated fla...

Let's recap for a minute. You used software known to screw up the MFT on a partition and it screwed it up badly enough that chkdsk can't do anything with it. You've used a number of other tools including a hex editor on the MFT. Fairly unsurprisingly, none of the tools were able to easily deal with ...

Re: voltage sag

Has anyone considered the 12V sag at high load may be caused by the fairly small gauge wires used between the brick and the Pico? I think the wire is 14g but I am not sure. 8A is a fair amount of current and 3-4 feet of smallish wire can cause a voltage drop. Assuming 14 gauge (AWG) wire and a wire...

In my oppinion, based on experience with a Via Pico ITX and the size of heatsink shown in the pictures of the Ion, it is going to get hot.
