Re: Silverstone Mammoth MM01.

Yea i thought the same thing until i read they used the CPU cooler in passive mode and only used the two intake fans, in the wrap up they say the following... If you install a 120mm exhaust fan as well as a fan on the CPU cooler, temperatures would be reduced further and chances are the case's low f...

Silverstone Mammoth MM01.

Even though SilverStone are targeting this case at harsh environments does anyone think it could be re-purposed as a silent case? http://silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=525 It seems with baffled intakes and exhausts along with HEPA filters it could possibly do a good job of keeping sound inside t...

Another quick way although it wont tell you what drive, is to use task manager.
Processes tab > View > Select Columns > I/O reads I/O writes, etc.

Re: Windows 8.1 Discussion

Calling developers lazy/incompetent is a little rich seeing as how Microsoft were still making major changes to 8.1 less than two weeks before GA. Do you expect developers to be able to totally re-write their code in less than a couple of weeks ? And its not just Nvidia having problems Windows 8.1 h...

Re: Windows 8.1 Discussion

Most of the time it is third party software or drivers that cause the problems, unless Microsoft botch an update. But doesn't that raise the question of why developers and hardware manufactures are having these problems with Windows 8/8.1 ? If Microsoft don't give them a chance to develop software o...

Re: Windows 8.1 Discussion

AFAIK the different thing DX11.2 brings is it lets DX address system ram for storing texture and such, just like everything in 8/8.1 its aimed at the mobile computing market. Windows 8/8.1 is imho a tablet and phone OS first and foremost, sure it can be used on a desktop PC but so could Windows CE a...

Re: Is carbon based TIM better than Ceramic based?

When it comes to applying AS5 it depends on the CPU you are using on how best to apply it. http://www.arcticsilver.com/intel_application_method.html# I have seen temps vary by 6-7c from a poor to good application i guess its why some people find other TIM's to be better, AS5 can be a real PIA to get...

Re: Is carbon based TIM better than Ceramic based?

How well or how badly TIM is applied probably has more influence than the actual TIM, AS5 tends to be very viscous so can be difficult to get a good application imho.

(for e.g., Prolimatech PK1) to 63 deg. C. (ThermalRight The Chill Factor) Prolimatech PK1 = 34c above ambient ThermalRight The Chill Factor = 37c above ambient As Cistron said you have to look at the rise from ambient (room temprature), i had trouble finding anything more than 10c

Re: Want to help Corsair build the best silent case ever?

TBH i think the Obsidian 550D pretty much gets things right, but if i could redesign some parts of it the first thing would be the 3.5" drive cages. As i have said before i would move the intake fans inside the case blowing directly across the CPU, and another blowing across the GPU. The problem com...

What is the case you are using ? mounting them directly to case is probably the worst thing you can do as the case is acting like a speaker, anti vibration grommets can only do so much.

Re: Want to help Corsair build the best silent case ever?

One thing that instantly puts me off is the idea of a top mount for a 2x120mm radiator. Most cases are either on a desk or on the floor, so the top fan openings are best placed to let sound out in the user's direction. Plus they're dust magnets if the machine is off or you're using them as an intak...

Re: Want to help Corsair build the best silent case ever?

Yea i would echo what quest_for_silence said about the 5.25 drive bays, 4 would be ideal as then you can install 1x5.25 CD drive and have a KamaBay type arrangement. The only changes i would make to the KamaBay would be to have the filter at the front of the case and the fan at the back of the 5.25 ...

So 0% in GPUTweak actually means 30% or what ever the minimum fan speed is set to in the VBIOS. On a side note, apparently EVGA PrecisionX (NVidia) o...

1) Fast boot-up. This is especially true if you are a power user with multiple peripherals. In Windows 7, all drivers appear to initialize on startup in a sequential order. In windows 8, it's managed smarter and your computer will bootup faster 2) Copy / Paste files. Windows 8 has a more optimized ...

Minimum is 1GB, recommended is 4GB. Oddly i don't think Microsoft say what is recommended for Windows 7, they just give minimum specs broadly similar to 8 (min 1GB).
