Alas moonlighting as a linux kernel developer and doing lots of video reencoding means the sort of computing power I need is greater than that of affordable passive computing, and the hard drive is actually the loudest component; going 2.5" would improve that by a little, but the performance drop do...

I've got SPCR inspired hardware where the loudest component measures 21dB and is very respected on these forums and reviews. However my pc is in a very quiet environment 10 feet from me and the difference between pc on and off is incredible. Having used computers for 24 years now I can say I sorely ...

Yes the Pale Ale is indeed Australian, and easy to find in Australia but less so exported. Favourite German is Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier. Coopers pale is very nice too but sweeter than I generally like. I didn't go with the Scythe because I wasn't planning a fanless setup since these fans were ...

I have a 3000B and a Solo. Go with the Solo. I read your description of the system you have built using the Solo case but I was wondering how much you had modded your SLK3000B. I really prefer the extra external bays on the SLK3000B but if the Solo has enough inherent advantages for quietness, I co...

Heh another build mistake on my part. Note in the picture how I put the DDR2 ram in two different coloured slots. To get dual channel with 2 ram modules they need to be in the same colour slots so I've since corrected that.

I agree. The value of the SFD bearings has not been emphasised enough in most of these comparisons (except by the SPCR crew) where the extra flexibility of possible usage applications and the potentially much longer life expectancy are of great value. Especially considering all of my pcs are on 24/7...

Heh that can't be good. The fans that come with the heatsinks aren't the same as the s-flex.

Also it's nice that the recent 120mm fan roundup by SPCR agrees with what I've said here about this fan.

Yes I would say 18.7dB is probably close to what this fan sounds like given comparisons with other fans. Probably the best thing I can say about the sflex D is it is the quietest available 120mm fan on the market... but then it is also the lowest flow. As regular SPCRers know, though, it is the only...

The duct is easily unscrewed. I've put together two systems where the height of the heatsink prohibits the duct being in place at any height so I removed the duct entirely and just left the grill. Of course this leaves an opening in a place which you may not desire.

This one's easy to answer. Yes. It takes very little airflow to make a massive difference to hard drives.

From the website:

3M™ Fluorinert™ Electronic Liquid FC-77
The wide liquid range of Fluorinert liquid FC-77 (-110 deg C to 97 deg C) allows its use in heat transfer applications in the semiconductor industry, and also makes it useful in electronics testing.

That's the stuff.

Undervolting the pentium Ds can safely shave off 10 degrees while still being stable in my experience provided your motherboard supports it.
