I think F3's weren't the best to begin with, those were 4 platter designs.

I have an intel SSD in an AMD system, because it seemed like the best choice (price/performance/reliability). I'm not an intel hater when it comes to their cpu, it's just that the price/performance/energy consumption ratio is better for AMD often (So i'm not the worst of the fanboys).

A bad housing may leave the sata to usb bridge running. And 500 mW may not seem like a lot, but if you're buying an SSD for the low power usage, then it is a lot. The idea is to attach it a very low power server (something in the range of 2.5-5.0 W AC). It's mainly an excercise in how low can you go...

Even a power usage of 500 mW, which is quite possible, seems wasteful. Has anyone ever measured what the extra DC power consumption for a external housing is?

Power usage of typical external enclosure

I was thinking of getting a Intel X25-V SSD for a situation where i want to keep power usage down. The power usage is supposed to be very low for that drive, and it'd be a shame to raise it significantly because of the enclosure. Any idea what kind of power usage is typical? It'll be connected by es...

DrMos seems to be a bios/hw feature.

Biostar also has something which seems bios settable.

I'm not a 100% sure about EPU or DES.

The main question is if EPU and DES are "always work" technologies.

What 780G/785G motherboards offer dynamic VRM enabling?

I'm eying a 785G AM3 motherboard (in a few months probably), but these often come with 4, 5 or 8 phase cpu VRMs. I'm wondering which offer bios/hw driven VRM switching for optimal power usage (especially idle). It won't be running windows, so special software is not an option. Most of the reviews an...

Yamaha AV recievers usually don't have fans. Mine is 5 years old now, but this doesn't seem to have changed. Something like http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/prod ... ID=5000300

Ofcource you should check if like the sound of yamaha recievers.

I've got 2 S166 HD161HJ and 8 T166 HD501LJ (no 160GB T166 to compare with, unfortunately). The S166 vibrates much, much less and is some 1~3 dB/A lower in both idle & seek. It comes with AAM enabled; disabling it gives seeks a little sharper, but still quite muted. Overall tonality is in higher fre...

I did notice they were better than P120's. While i do think the S166 is quiter, that could be due to AAM settings, whi...

I have a new S166 and a T166(320 GB), which replaced 2 out of 3 P120's in my system. I have a slight amount of remaining vibration in my case, due to my suspension style. This has decreased with the swap of two of the hard drives. Initial impressions are good. The drives are speedy, around 40% faste...

I have an opertunity to sell one my SP2004C at a loss of about 10-15 euros compared to the price of HD160HJ. RMA'ed a questionable Phantom 350, they offered alternative

I bought this psu as a temporary replacement psu and i find it pretty quiet. I'm actually surprised by the level of noise.
