ATI X1600 Pro (fan or just heatsink?)

Hi, My little ATI fan is now whistling... I am considering replacing it with the Zalman VF900 gpu, but am wondering if anyone recommends a fanless heat sink for this card. I rarely play games, but want to make sure heat wise a heat sink would be sufficient. Thx! The card: http://images.highspeedback...

Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E vs SFF21D (is my E defective?)

Hi, I have ordered one SFF21E and one SFF21D. While the D is near silent, the E is quite loud! I would not even consider it a low noise fan. Is it defective, or is the E really that much louder? (Is Scythe ok at replacing defective fans?) Thx! Unrelated: Oiling my old Nexus and old scythe fans had n...

Oiling 3yr old nexus fans... any success stories?

I have a bunch of 3 year old 120mm nexus fans (the orange ones). They are definitely not as 'silent' as they used to be. I am now in the US (I am from Canada) so this would be a good opportunity to get some new fans, or I can save some money and oil the existing fans. I am wondering if anyone applie...

Re: Lifespan of fans? (nexus)

It has gotten a CPU upgrade in the mean time... so core 2 duo is decent enough for me... (with an SSD as drive c)
However yeah Sandy bridge & USB 3 is my next upgrade. (2011)

Re: Lifespan of fans? (nexus)

Thank you for all the feedback. 1) Do nexus fans typically respond well to oil? My computers run 100+ hours a week, for three years now. 2) Would the s-flex 800 rpm be to little air? Or is s-flex 1200rpm silent enough? 3) (for MikeC) I am certain I am not more sensitive... the computers are definite...

Lifespan of fans? (nexus)

Hi all, When I first put my computers together (antec p150, scythe ninja, nexus fans) my computers ran nice and silent. It has been 2 or 3 years and now the noise level is quite annoying. I do use compressed air to clean fans from \ dust occasionally. Did the fans get louder or is it my imagination?...

Network Storage Solutions (as silent solution)

I am considering a potential network storage solution: - I can place it in another room (hence quiet) - Should have capacity for 2 to 4 HDs - Should be compatible with 1TB drives - Should spin down when not in use <- important for me - Should not be noisy (and fully silent when not in use) - Should ...

Will Ninja fit on a Asus P5B-VM? (running a server passively

Hi, I have two questions: (1) The P5B-VM (integrated vga)'s CPU is closer to the edge of the board than in the other P5B motherboards. Will the Ninja have enough space? (2) I'm planning on under-clocking a CND$96 Celeron on that board and run a server passively using the Ninja. How does that sound? ...

The WD500YS is the 500MB 8MB RAID version of the WD500KS. Aperantly speced for longer hours... I need a HD to work 24/7 in a server where performence is not an issue (noise is). Anybody know if the YS is as silent as the KS?? Also, my alternative is getting two 320GB (WD3200SD) for the same price, b...

Recommended small tower w/o PSU ?

Is there a good small tower available without a power supply?

The antec slk3000 series cases are too large,
The antec slk1600 series cases don't have the quality/features,
and the sonata itself (of which I have two) only comes with a power supply.

Thx for the help.

It's for a celeron 1000 (older computer).

I found the Fortron 300W in Canada at www.quietpc.ca for CND $55.

Do you know how it fares (accoustics wise) vs the "Antec 380W TruePower" that comes with the Sonata case?

Thanx!

Underclocking v.s. undervolting? Celeron 2.4 w/o fan?

Hi all, I'm about to set up a server where I don't need a lot of power. I'm aiming for a celeron 2.4 with on-board video, Antec SLK3000B, couple of hard drives. Maybe the ASUS P4SP-MX all-in-one motherboard (I've been an Asus loyalist for a while). For undervolting I understand Asus is a no-go. [u]M...
