Mini 12 announced, though with h/d instead of SSD. Keyboard looks nice. Is it fanless? I was very interested, but the fan on my new E6500 (P8400, X4500, replaced h/d with SSD) just doesn't want to kick on while browsing, reading, running several not-too-intensive apps (for several hours at a time). ...

I'm the proud owner of a Dell E6500 (X4500, P8400, 4Gb, LED). I ended up with it almost by accident, but thought with a week's free trial, I'd give it a go. Result. I've spent the last 3 hours configuring it, downloading software (firefox, etc), and I still don't know what the fan sounds like, becau...

I'm surprised no one seems to be talking about the Dell Mini9 (and reported sightings of a Mini 12 accidently splashed on one of their sites) seeing it (they) HAVE NO MOVING PARTS!!! Wow, this sounds like quite a breakthrough.

Others trying this sort of thing have often reported the dreaded Intel CPU low voltage whine? Is there any high pitched noise if you put your ear down near the keyboard?

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad T61 fanless operation

When running at 800mhz and fan stopped with tpfancontrol, cpu temperature is around 60 celsius in light use, and tops out at 80-85 celsius degrees while loaded 100% with Intel TAT or Orthos for several hours (no throttling). Other temperatures remain below 60. Can you set 0.85v in BIOS, or is that ...

The Panasonic CF-18 had a fan, but it's update, the CF-19 (sporting among other things, a faster CPU- duo 2 core U7500) is fanless. "Water and dust proofing is essential to a healthy notebook. did you try some undervolting with rmclock? i just use that and in lowest mhz the cpu allows, and lowest voltage the mobo allows the fan basicly never turns on. I tried this on a T2010 (1.2 duo, x3100) and running RMclock taxed the system so much that temps went up, and the fan on much faster than ...

I recently stumbled across this guy and was impressed by it's specs. Much smaller than a notebook (though not as thin) with a duo 2 core CPU. Apollogies if it's been disucussed before.

The rest of the family is effected, but I'm yet to find a post with a U7600 owner complaining of a buzz ??? A...

Here is a nice thread (with further links) that anyone wanting to under-volt their notebook may be interesting in. The cool thing is, you just close RMClock to disable the effect and get back full CPU power when needed. I should add, the poster of the linked thread is claiming 24dC idle & 47dC full...

I've been having an interesting chat about some Fujitsu notebook tablets. The T2010 (u7600 + x3100) apparently runs low CPU tasks well with no fan in battery mode, but not when plugged in. With 7-8h's battery life, the later isn't much of an issue. In Australia it comes as standard with a detachable...

Dells with SSD's

A prolific poster at NotebookReview.com claims the fan in his XPS 1330 no longer comes on during normal use (ie unless CPU intensive use, or using an external monitor) now that he's installed a SSD. He's had two at a time with SSD's, so it can't be a fluke, however lots of non-noise-sensitive people...

Submerged cooling is cheap, but you need some clear thinking. Read this thread for some tips on the various issues involved. I personally wouldn't bother sumberging just to replace one 120mm fan (in the PSU) with another (on a single rad), but you could use a 3x 120 rad passively or a 2x 120 with ul...

Yes, maybe the last 3" (or whatever) could be a grounded chimney extension (ie use an insulating rubber gasket)- both increasing the chimney "draw" effect due to extra length, and collecting the worst of the grime.
