Analog/VGA output quality (into my Sony CRT) is horrible too with vertical banding visible across solid colours. I browsed through those threads quickly but it looks like the ones having issues with the AGP HD3850 are SocketA system users. I'm glad at least not to experience what they are experienc...

Zorander, consider yourself lucky to have gotten good performance to date as there are some massive issues concerning ATI HD3850 AGP cards. For some constructive advice read these (they're looong stickied old threads, so start at the end and work backwards); http://www.vgaforum.com/showthread.php?t=...

it looks like a convoluted airflow setup. i'd change the direction of the CPU fan, and add an exhaust fan first things first. I think my photos are misleading. The photo of the system on the bench when I was testing my overclocks and stability show the fan blowing back>front, but when I installed i...

I think your approach to cooling the CPU is flawed Ooh, I'm intrigued what you mean by this. Care to elaborate? I have the TRUE in this orientation so that the CPU fan is directing air to the back of the case and exiting via the rear exhaust fan cutout. I'll admit I haven't experimented with coolin...

System overhaul, pretty much new everything

**apologies for the size of the pictures, I had this formatted for html and haven't had chance to resize everything. I'll do it when I get two minutes to rub together** Well the time had come for a refresh of my system. I'd managed to keep pretty consistent with the spec for over a year which is goo...

Well I've been sponging these free resources for far too long now, so I've just donated $50 as well. Great job you're doing and I'm only too happy to do what little I can to help get more noise-orientated reviews onto the site.

Very interesting Bruce. Looking forward to you retesting it to see if it cures the random noise issue. I'm also pretty astonished at the condition of the circuit board - do you reckon it's a recon?

ebuyer have more 500W Antec Phantoms in stock. I've just ordered one and using super saver delivery and google checkout it came to £66.08 all in. Be fast though, they sold out very quickly last time they got stock.

It didn't make a difference on the DFI. If I set everything to auto and enabled speedstep it dropped the voltage to 1.16v when it dropped the multiplier, and upped it to 1.33v under load (which is still under the recommended vcore, but I think that's down to vdroop being so bad on this board) If I s...

I'll try this for you tonight. I have an E4400 running on a DFI Infinity 975X, but I've set the vcore and fsb manually in the BIOS and disabled speedstep. I did this because I have a Scythe Infinity and Yate Loon running at ~6V and they keep the CPU cool and it's quiet enough for my needs at the mom...

Follow up to this thread - I ordered 5 of the orange Yate Loon D12SL-12s from www.jab-tech.com last thursday and they arrived this morning. Using the cheapest postage option (global priority) the whole lot including postage came to £18.05 when I used PayPal to pay for it - I think it would have bee...

The coloured version of the Hiper Type R's have LEDs, modular cables and APFC and depending on your airflow through the case can remain relatively quiet. It depends on your definition of quiet though, I'd recommend trying to hear one as the 120mm fan has what sounds to my untrained ear like bearing ...

For me the change was swung by the fact that my HD is pretty much brand new, so I wouldn't want it falling any sort of distance. Plus the elastic was only 14p/metre. I bought 2m as I wasn't sure where I was going to attach it and how far it would hang etc... I had to visit 2 fabric shops to find it,...

Cheers MikeC, I will do. The elastic bands aren't really intended as an permanent solution anyway (too ugly for that) more of a test to see what difference it made to sound - which was LOTS by the way. Thanks for the warning though.

**EDIT** http://www.charlaph.dsl.pipex.com/knickers.jpg Taking Mike's comments about my elastic bands into account, my HD is now suspended using knicker elastic. It looks uneven in the photo, but it's perfectly level. It's just the connectors are pushing it off-centre, so it's twisted. At some point...

I bought some memory from ebuyer recently and added 4x 120mm case fans to the order just for the sake of it as they were cheap and didn't bump up the postage. They cost 65p each for LED ones (quickfind code 65696 - now up to 80p) and 56p (!) each for black ones (63281 - now up to 82p) The black ones...

I bought a load of grommets from www.fleetwoodcomputers.co.uk which looked just like these and I didn't notice any difference when I mounted the rear 120mm case fan on my Antec SLK3700AMB using them. I did notice a difference when I used them on my PSU's 92mm fan though. There wasn't enough room ins...

I had a cheap £30 Codegen case with 3x80mm case fan mounts. I spent more on quiet fans, fanbuses, quiet heatsinks etc.. than I did on the case and at the end of it all I still wasn't happy with noise levels, so I bought an Antec SLK3700AMB which was quieter straight out of the box. The main problem ...

Funniest thing - I got an e-mail from re-tek saying they were 'processing' my order yesterday, but had no folow up today to confirm or say they did or didn't have them in stock. I think it was just funny about certain voltages. I tried 1.625V and 1.6V and both locked me up, then tried 1.5V (this was for my idle setting) and it works no problem. Searching t'internet I've read from several other people who had the same problem, but it's working great now.

Late to the party as always, I just installed this tonight., but what a great utility! Half an hours twiddling and I now have a lovely balance between quiet and performance. It's almost made my fanbus redundant. I had been using speedfan but it was sketchy at best, particularly at controlling fan sp...
