I've been waiting a couple of weeks on an SQD2.5-1000 since ordering it from here for my wicked fast PATA drive HM160HC. Yeah, netsuperstore have a habit of listing products as available when they aren't. Did you get the quiet drive, xilencer? Yes I got it a couple of weeks ago but ordered from htt...

Real shame WD went over the top with the power saving on these GP drives, unloading the heads after only 5 seconds idling? I wish WD had just brought the 5400rpm from the 2.5" market, they should have left the slow self destruct feature behind. From what I've gathered the APM feature (which enables ...

I assume the fan part in the info is wrong, it looks like the same heatsink as on their SilentFX 8500GT, it's passive dualslot. There's a .pdf available with a higher res picture, it's definately passively cooled on the picture. By the way I mentioned this card in the bigger 8600GTS thread a week ag...

Here, the X1950XT can be had for less than the 8600GTS, but none are passively cooled out of the box :( Maybe if the Accelero S1 gets out shortly and goes cheap.. I'm looking into the 8600GT otherwise.

I can say the 80mm Noctua Fan ( NF-R8 ) seems like a safe investment. It's very high quality and the best 80mm fan I've had. Installed it in my Xbox and it works great, inaudible, nice static pressure, it's all good 8) Three things surprised me with this fan. The first thing I noticed was the colors...

Yes that's what I'm suggesting. I think most have a problem when they use certain discs frequently and over long periods of time. In this case you can just dump an image on the HDD first. However if you use new discs all the time then it won't be of much help no.

Firstly, that Zalman cooler is deficient. Heat pipes are meant to lead heat to some sort of radiator that can efficiently dissipate it. The heat pipes on that thing lead to nowhere  Secondly, are you sure the standard mounting method is not good enough? I would test the drive out with the stan...

Also check the edit above, it was a mistake, the new 80GB model is not called 7K80.
These are the two new Deskstar product lines:

7K160: 160GB / 80GB

T7K500: 500GB / 400GB / 320GB / 250GB

I wouldn't put any money on SpinPoints. Just have a listen to the .mp3 recordings here at SPCR, both JVC and Nidec samples have high pitched whine. You need a Smart Drive 2002 enclosure. I recommend the new DeskStar 7K160. It's the fastest 7200rpm single platter drive on the market. As you're asking...

I'm getting very interested in the 7K160. The idle sound power is probably about as low as currently possible from a single platter 3.5" 7200rpm drive, I'm only hoping for a smooth noise character. The record breaking idle power consumption of only 4.9W (IDE model) might tell something about the how...

I think modern Radeons can run safely up to 125'C, but I'm not 100% sure so ask Gigabyte or ATI.
Just watch the northbridge if it's located close to the video card, it usually overheats around 65'C.

If I understand RAID 0 correctly it's pretty simple. The problem in this thread seems to be that drives are not separated from data. * RAID 0 does not increase or decrease the chance of hard drive failure. * RAID 0 multiplies the chance of data loss with the number of drives used. In the case of RAI...
