Re: Macbook pro's 2011
Ah, i was thinking of upgrading my i5 2.53 17" to this year's model. Guess not need to consider it now and just go with a SSD upgrade (Vertex 3! ). Playing civ 5 makes the 2010 model quite loud already, i can't imagine it can get louder with this year's model. Probably it's time for apple to r...

Xigmatek Bolt In Kit required for AM2 mobo?
Hi, I recently got a Xigmatek Achilles S1284C CPU cooler for my AMD 4850e. Currently, I am using the supplied clip to install the CPU cooler to my motherboard. Was wondering if the bolt in kit that xigmatek sells seperately will yield better temperature. Also, we also like to know if getting the Bol...

I have the same case and run a passive PSU Okaya Fanless 350W. Been running for 2 weeks 24/7 and it seems to be holding up. I have these components: AMD 4850e @ 1.15v Xigmatek Achilles HDT-1284C Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 I use my Xigmatek fan as my case fan. A bit on the noisy side so i'm planning to sw...

Thermalright SI-97. What to do with it?
I have an extra Thermalright SI-97 from the Socket A era lying around unused. Currently I have only one desktop (4850e/Gigabyte 780G/ no vid card) which has a Xigmatek HDT-S1284C installed. The only thing I can think of that requires the use of this SI-97 heatsink is for a new vid card (which probab...

Cooling a Dell E521 - What fan to use?
Hi, I have a Dell E521 and I believe it has a Nidec 120 mm fan. Although it's pretty quiet, I want to find some fan even quieter. Will the Nexus 120mm orange fan be more quieter and worth the trouble to change?

Possible to mod the SI-97 into an AM2 compatible heatsink?
I have a SI-97 that is only compatible with K7 slots. However, I will be getting an AM2 package and will like to use this heatsink on it. Is it possible to reuse the old Si-97 K7 heatsink clip on the AM2 plastic bracket? or any possible way to mod it? I know there's the SI-97A that is compatible wit...

I took ownership of an E521 with Athlon 64 X2 3800+ yesterday. All I can say is "wow". I was a bit concerned when I first powered up because for the first 10 seconds or so it runs the CPU fan at full speed and then eases it down gradually. It's nice to know that there is so much spare cooling capab...

I agree with bryan_d. The SI-97 is to large for AS Adhesive on a 9700pro. But a socket A stock HSF would work I think. But if you have a SI-97 laying around check out the guide bryan_d links to. Seems like the way to go for you. :) Drill and tap is usually the best way to go in most cases. AS Adhes...

AS Adhesive will work fine. You might want to try a mix of 50/50 with AS Adhesive and AS3 (will probably work with AS5 as well, anyone knows for sure?) to create a slighly weaker bond. That way you can remove the heatsink later if you would want to. With 100% AS Adhesive you will probably not be ab...

I was thinking of doing a mod such as this with my Radeon 9700 pro using my spare Si-97 or my stock AMD Sempron 2800+ HS.
Will the Arctic Silver Adhesive work well with this since they are relatively light heatsinks?
