I've been looking for a laptop cooler, so I gave this one a try. Personally, I think it's a little loud, even at the lowest setting. I've always found Zalman fans had this aggressive "whirring" sound. And I can definitely notice the sound cut through my notebook fan of my Fujitsu Amilo 1437G. I dunn...

I can vouch for the VF900. With some slight modding, you can also attach the VF900 fan onto your video card's fan connector (rather than motherboard) and take advantage of any thermally controlled features your card may have. I did this with my X800XL AGP, and having the fan thermally controlled via...

Success! I now have my VF900 fan thermally controlled via ATI Tool. the 2-pin connector appeared proprietory, so I initally tried prying off the pins from the stock heatsink. After much frustration, I gave up. (I hope I didn't damage the wires) So I examined the PCB, and concluded I should be able t...

Attach VF900 fan connector to Video Card PCB slot?

I just installed my VF900 onto my ATI AIW X800XL AGP. Wow what a difference, the idle temps is immediately 10 degrees lower. anyways, I have the fan connected to my motherboard which in turn is connected to the fanmate. This means that I can't take advantage of any thermally controlled fan, (as the ...

at 1400RPM i doubt they would be quiet at 12V.

1800RPM is also a little bit high for an 80mm fan.

personally, I don't bother with CFM or dBA numbers. the RPM and reputation of the fan can generally tell you a lot more.

I just installed a Seasonic S12-430 yesterday. I notice my 3.3 is alittle lower than my other PSU's. It idles at 3.2V

I had a PowerQ (Fortron) 300W, that gave me 3.3V exactly.
My Antec True380S gave me 3.28V.

but I'm not gonna worry about it, still well within spec.

Best fanless VGA heatsink?

I'm trying to decide which fanless heatsink to buy. I think I narrowed it down to the ThermalTake CL-G0003 or the Zalman ZM80D. I know that ThermalTake has a bit of a bad rep and a lot of ppl are gonna say Zalman right away, but this is fanless, so it is kinda hard to lie about dBA ratings. Has anyo...

It's very quiet and virtually no motor noise at that speed. Good quality fan. but if you want to 12V it and have it run at 2000RPM, that's loud eve...

yeah, it could be coil whine/buzz, likely from the PSU, but other parts in your system (ie. mobo) can be a potential source.

Coudl also be the monitor too. I know my CRT buzzes a bit sometimes.

How is the airflow in the case? One of the concerns I (and others) have brought up abuot this case is that it does not support a front fan. ThermalTake is generally avoided for "silent" products. They often exaggerate their dBA ratings. I'd say you go for an Enermax instead. Or a Seasonic.
