Re: Is VIA K8M800 really for low-end ?

I am afraid that a low-end means, that this mobo will never use even a half of athlon64 performance. oh heck no.. That board will be beaten in benchmarks by a fair margin by nForce based boards, but that VIA chipset is nowhere near half speed. If this is going to be used as a light-use serv...

Arctic cooling VGA Silencer

I have one of the older generation ones, that are blue colored, on a 9800pro. Very quiet on it's "silent" setting. There is quite a bit of bearing noise however. You'll never hear it unless the rest of your system is dead quiet.

If you can't have any more heat in your case, the decision between and fanless and actively cooled card is a non-issue. Both types of cards will dump their heat into the case. It's the same amount of heat, just spread out into a larger volume of air if you use a fan. Swivelguy2 already mentioned thi...

I think you will need several fans, but they can all be slow spinning, under 1k RPM 120mm fans. I'm thinking Nexus 120mm fans running at 6-7v. - One on each CPU 'sink - Dual Intake, Dual Exhaust - One or Two blowing onto motherboard to cool RAM/FETs/Bridges - One on a passively cooled Video card 9 t...

Re: Hard disks rated by noise & heat

I run a Seagate Cheetah 15k.3 15Krpm SCSI disk and can barely hear it. IMHO, the small added noise is well worth the trade off for the boost I get in video editing. Can bearly hear a 15k RPM drive? You have a fair amount of high-frequency hearing loss. I'm not sure why you're posting "the performan...

The best fancontroller in the world, imo, is the Sunbeam.
Available from svc.com

Uses voltage regulation, not PWM, and lets you adjust voltage from 0v-12v.

Ralf hit the nail on the head.. :) Does this reviewer truly have no clue to what 11dBa means, or sounds like (more like, what it DOESN'T sound like)? I read this "review" on overclockers a few days ago, while I was looking at some other information, and I had the same reaction, "SilenX must have hir...
