well, i live with the luxurae for well over a year now. it silenced my hdd significantly without killing it, as some might think. my setup was very, very quiet, with everything inside passive and with the only fan i use for cooling the whole system, a 120mm orange Nexus, spinning at 700rpm. problem ...

the e-shop i ordered the card at has no stock for the 6200/128bit, so i got a Abit Radeon 9250 with 128MB RAM/64bit. will get the 6200 later. my HTPC works great with the slower 9250: great HDTV, beautiful DVD playback, DivX great, too. for now is enough for my needs. i should try a WMHD (Step Into ...

How do you underclock the GPU ? you mean use proggies like ATITool ? then forget it, I don't want another thing running in the background and slowing down my start-up time, but if i can change it through control panel or something, then it would be fine. no need for background proggies! try coolbit...

i have the same dilema: just built a HTPC with a S3 crap video chip onboard. it wouldn't display properly at 1280 X 768 on my 32" LCD, so I need a VGA card. after reading a lot of reviews and comments on forums, my decision was nvidia 6200 128MB RAM with 128bit bus. why? because is a new chip, it ha...

i would say Gigabyte 6800, without a doubt. using one for over a year now, never gad an issue. for about a month i downclock the core only in 2D mode to 200 MHz from 325 MHz stock. the idle temperature is low 30s C now, down from mid 40s. and 9.9k/!8.9k in edmark 03/01 is not that sluggish, either :...

spiffy, just make sure you blow some air through the luxurae. for instance, you could install the hdd packed inside the enclosure at the bottom of your case, behind the front intake fan. it doesn't have to be a fast fan, a Nexus at 600rpm would suffice. that should keep the drive cool'n'quiet :) som...

i ordered 4 to recover my expenses, not worth getting only one shipped.

i got the 4412FGL PAPST from http://www.lownoisepc.com
not quiet at 12V, down to 7V still not good enough for me... so yeah, my advice, if you are looking for really quiet fans, PAPST is not what you need imo
looking forward to get these orange Nexus wonders. they are like a week away now

Yes, but now it's been undervolted for more than 2 hours, and no sign of changes in the T-Balancer. well, that's strange... are you sure the gpu is underclocked? make sure you underclock the 2D mode only, otherwise there's no effect at idle... if it is slowed down, at what frequency is it running n...

peterson, it takes some time for the temperature of a heavy heatsink to get down, there's some thermal inertia... the chip cools down much faster, it weights only a few mg :D i love it, the only reason i had to keep my Aerocool Turbine at 800 rpm was the vga. just hate to see it idle above 50C. now ...

thanks for your reply gforce1! still testing, for over two hours now my gpu runs at 200MHz. no sign of artefacts, it seems to run whitout issues so far. temperature idle is an amazing 32C now, down from 48-50C! i would not underclock the vga ram, there's not much use in it since they don't generate ...

Underclocking a 6800:would it damage the gpu?
i just underclocked my Gigabyte fanless 6800 down to 200MHz from stock 325MHz for 2D only. by doing that the idle temperature dropped 16C. would this damage it? just concerned that when i start a 3D application the frequency goes back to 325MHz instantly... anyway, would be nice to use the card this...

speedfan can log, too. just make sure the logging is active for everything you wanna monitor, then fire those games and 3dmarksdfrost wrote:With Motherboard Monitor as the data collection software, you could use MBMLog to record the values and review them later.

Jaer, there's nothing wrong with vga temperatures in speedfan. i trust those readings, i also checked the drivers temps, they're the same. i also trust my fingers! idle the heatsink is not too hot, no way it would be 50 + 20 C as you suggested... and let me tell you, that passive cooling on the card...
