9600 GSO $35

at newegg, the Asus 9600 GSO is $35 after rebate, with free shipping. May need a quieter fan, though maybe undervolting it would be enough -- they say it runs cool.

Quite sad -- having to send back my new Eco Green. Samsung's HUTIL says "Ecc Errors" - "this drive has some defects." Also, my Gigabyte nforce 3 board doesn't recognize it again on a warm reboot/Windows restart. I had the jumper on to defeat SATA 2, as the board doesn't have it. I did run HD Tune's ...

Super Low Wattage Athlon 64's Coming

Not sure where I read it, but AMD is planning a 15w single core Athlon 64 with a frequency of 1.6.

Here's an article about the 8w 1.0 one:

I've built people 2 pc's in Antec NSK4480's that come with 380's in them, and they were silent for all intents and purposes. But that's without really low ambient, old ears, and pc's that idled at 35W and peaked at 59W.

My EA430 ramps up when playing certain games. Bioshock and Transformers make it ramp up. Crysis (strangely enough) and Psychonauts did not. I did play with a PSU duct when playing Crysis and with that it never ramped up. At the time, I was awaiting another Slipstream 1200rpm for my exhaust and was ...

Felger:

I meant if they made a larger fan replacement grid thingy. They're talking about little ones that move lots of air, but could be loud. What if they made a 120mm one and barely ran it. How about fan replacements that fit standard 80mm, 92mm, and 120mm mounts.

Perhaps if they make a bigger one and run it conservatively, then the airflow through each part of it would be slower and hence quieter, unless the technology buzzes.

Bladeless Electronic Fan Invented

More powerful than a fan the same size, but maybe not silent. Able to cool a 25 watt chip with a grid 1cm square.

I have a Solo and Earthwatts 430. I'm enjoying them immensely. The case has great ventilation with the rear fan on low -- hd's stay cool. It won't take the very longest video cards, over 10", however. I put the DVD in the 2nd slot which leaves a tunnel on top fed by the grille on the sides with air ...

I have the Yate Loon from Cooler Guys running horizontally in my power supply, on a soft gasket. It runs at 1250 at 12v very nicely, and can be slowed down on a Zalman fan controller smoothly. I have thin foam in my rig and can't hear it normally, but there's pretty high ambient noise.

I put the Yate Loon into the psu today. I used Vantec rubber gaskets on the fan and the power supply too. I nibbled a hole for the wire to come out. At first I hooked it to my Zalman 5 1/4" bay fan controller. Amazingly, I couldn't hear a difference between full-on and all the way down. There's a bi...

They don't have rpm sensing. Darn, that was important as I'll be monitoring them while varying the rpm.

I'm beginning to see myself putting in the Yate Loon and if the bearing goes poof, going into town and getting a Vantec Stealth.

I would use a papst 4412F/2GL (1600rpm) or 4412/2GLL (1200rpm). It uses a sintec bearing and will last longer in a psu than a simple sleeve bearing. You can buy the 2GLL here - http://www.sharkacomputers.com/paulqulowspc.html It's on the expensive side, but well made. I wasn't able to locate a 1600...

I've received one Yate 120 in the mail. I find that I can pull the fan away from the hub quite a ways, as if it's on a spring. If I put it in my psu it will be blowing up and thus the fan will pull back to the maximum. Are Yate's normally like this? Has anyone run them blowing up for a period of time?
