Re: Silverstone Alta F2

We haven't completely forgotten about this place yet as our case product manager loved SPCR (when it was still doing regular reviews) and always strive to make our cases with as good of noise to performance ratio as possible! It's hard to make a compelling lower cost 90 degree rotated tower case bec...

Re: Silverstone Alta F2

Thanks to both for the discussion here! Just want to chime in regarding the effectiveness of our designs over the years. It's true that given enough airflow from the fans, cooling performance would become the same for vertical or horizontal orientation. But the difference is definitely there if you ...

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

If you wait long enough, most foam ends up falling apart. Literally, into fine particles. When's it's in that end-of-life state, touch it and it can smear greasily on your fingers. It is a petrochemical product, and it seems to fall back into its original state... You see that in foam roll surround...

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

I'm wondering if that foam will get full of dust and be a pain to clean after a while. It's not like metal or plastic where you can just wipe it down. If you keep the factory airflow configuration intact as positive pressure and make sure to use all included filters, then you won't have dust issues...

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

Ah sorry you had already done a great test of that! I went ahead and ordered the R6 seeing as Im using the NH-D15 and that might be a few mm so high for the KL07. I will try your cardboard approach (covering up the bottom intake along side the PSU ceiling). If that is insufficient I will try to mov...

lodestar wrote:SST Guy Can you confirm what the rpm range is of the fan fitted to the KL07.
KL07's included fans can be undervolted to around 6V, at which point they can spin down to around 425rpm. At full power (12V), the fan is rated to 900rpm (+/-100rpm).

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

Can the fans be controlled via PWM? I thought that the edge for R6 was that they had a PWM-hub that can be connected to the motherboard to generate a chassis fan curve. Im planning on using a B450 Tomahawk. If the KL07 case fans can be controlled via the motherboard thats great. As teodoro pointed ...

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

Build quality and the massive R6-fanbase makes the case. As you say, Gamers Nexus show that KL07 win, but thats just one test where they themselves come to a "meh"-conclusion (reached out to them to get a comment but alas no response). As db/C-values are very relative compared to actual people usin...

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

Wow, what happened here? Gamers Nexus's test number clearly shows when comparing apple to apple, the KL07 has the edge in thermal efficiency. Sure you can add more fans or tweak to improve GPU cooling in the R6, but that will also make it louder than the stock KL07 (then you are back to where you st...

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

Also, the PSU shroud doesn't have any vents above it to allow heat to escape so I'm worried my Superflower Golden Silent 500W fanless PSU will only allow heat to escape through the side vents. If there's room for a 120mm fan below the 2 140mm front intake fans, would the air pressure (from a slow r...

Thanks for the remarks on the new NJ450-SXL. HardwareCanucks' test result is inline with ours. The foam's effect on noise reduction is slight in either volume or pitch. With the KL07, there is more to perceived noise reduction than just foam padding. The vents on the front and top were also designed to direct noise away without compromising ai...

Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

That GamerNexus's review of KL07 didn't give it a completely glowing conclusion, because it wasn't the best at either cooling or quietness in its factory configuration. But usually to be best at either, the sacrifice made would be detrimental to the other spectrum of performance metric, which admitt...

Hi Freeco, if the GD04 has been working well for you then GD09/GD10 would work just as well if not slightly better. You have to take into account that SPCR's less than favorable verdict is based on the test system they use. Compared to modern mid/larger tower cases, the GD09/GD10 were obviously outm...

Another SilverStone case that you can consider is the RAVEN RV03: http://www.silverstonetek.com/raven/products/index.php?model=RV03 It was one of the best performer of its time in terms for cooling/noise when it was released. This design has been reused in our current award winning RV05/FT05 cases.

My main problem with the DS380, however, is the low cooling performance. There are some whitepapers from Google about longevity of consumer hard drives that state that failure rates rise by an order of magnitude if the HDD operates above 40C. Actually no, in Google's hard drive study ( http://resea...

I just want to chime in and remind you to take a step back and consider the size of the cases you are looking at again. The more standard component and less interference you have, the bigger you must go. Just because a case is called Mini-ITX doesn't automatically make them smaller. Below is a list ...

Re: Silverstone ML05 mini-ITX HTPC case

I am continually puzzled by the lack of lower wattage PSUs. IMHO except for gamers there is no reason that anyone needs a PSU that delivers more than 150W. This article had a couple of configurations and the systems drew from 70-100W when fully loaded. Isn't it a waste to then use a 300W PSU, espec...
