This is one good idea done completely wrong. The Atom needs to be paired with a specially developed northbridge in order to have any advantage. AMD BE-processor + 780G offers probably ten times the performance with roughly equal power consumption. It doesn't help to match a tiny 45nm cpu with a 180n...

I'm using DD-WRT as well, because I have to in order to get my router working. It will keep rebooting every half hour with tomato (the routers uptime goes down to zero, not just "connection dropping"). Right now I'm using DD-WRT to run my WRT54G V2.2 underclocked to 192MHz, because it seems more sta...

I've heard from other forums that the 400W model was indeed quiet(er), maybe there is a difference between them? I'm not sure about this, but I think the 400W model uses a low-speed fan, but perhaps the same fan controller.

The extra 4- or 8-pin 12V AUX is for systems like the Intel V8. They require both an 8-pin and a 4-pin connector to work. Odd enough, the AMD 4x4 platform requires only one AUX connector, and a 4-pin one. It is funny how everything repeat itself. Seasonic- and Seasonic-manufactured PSUs always use t...

This means that you should go out and buy a 2900XT if you want a card that consumes more power, while perforiming less? I want one! [/irony]

The only reason to buy this would be if it was significally cheaper, but I doubt it.

I'm guessing that it made no difference to sales. The fastest cards are aimed at gamers and the like, who would be more likely to see the insane power consumption as a mark of pride, to go with their 1kW PSUs. I would expect most people who care about power consumption would disregard these cards o...

Here are the PSU power consumption numbers (using a Tagan TurboJet TG1100-U96; we measured its power draw from the wall outlet and multiplied the result by this PSU’s efficiency factor, about 0.83) this article ASSUMES an 83% efficiency... i may not be giving 1kW PSUs enough credit, but that seem...

The power draw is actually calculated from the PSU, not from the wall. The AMD Quad-FX system with two 8800GTX in SLI actually used ove...

The idle sound of one of those babies is about twice as high as my three Spinpoint P120, mounted in a P180 chassis. The seek noise is also comparable to a computer from last century. It is easily the noisiest hard drive I've heard recently.

HP nc6220 - quiet!

I recently bought one used HP nc6220. It is based on a Pentium M 1.73GHz, 512MB ram, 40GB Hitachi HD, a 14" screen and DVD-combo drive and weighs in at around 2.2kg (4.4 pounds).
