In page two of the arcticle you say that the small heatsink is for the GPU, and the large heatsinks are for the board... I think that the big ones are for the GPU (and perhaps memory) while the small one is for the HSI chip or whatever you call it (PCIe->AGP conversion). Yes, that is correct. The s...

Re: Coolest AGP card for headless server?
The computer won't boot without an AGP cardPerhaps I'm being silly, but why would a headless server need a graphics card?

Very nice work! I love the cable management. One suggestion, you might want to get rid of the front 120mm fan grill (under the plastic hood) - it probably only makes more turbulence (and hence, more noise) With regard to the HDDs, you could try suspending them using elastic. I've successfully suspen...

There is also the Waffer Air conditioner unit, a 5.25" device - I think it blows across a peltier. And there was one other case I saw before, but can't find anymore it had basically an AC unit built in, with a 92mm fan at the front on the AC unit. It was located at the front intake location, essenti...

As much as there are problems with Gigabyte's fanless graphics cards, I still commend Gigabyte for developing them in the first place - as far as I am concerned they were one of the first to develop such passive cooling solutions for the mainstream nVIDIA graphics cards. While they are problematic f...

If you saw my above post, I added a fan on the bottom of the case. It was too noisy, and in true SPCR fashion I ditched it all together. But now summer is starting to kick in, with temps in the low 30s (outside, maybe a little cooler inside my room). Motherboard temps reading in at 45 degrees, CPU a...

Well, my Phantom is quietly (or silently, should I say) struggling through the heat.. Summer is approaching.. and the power supply (and case panels) get extremely warm... we shall see how it fares..

The shortcoming of this settup is the lack of airflow to the bottom of the hard drive. Watch your harddrive temps with SpeedFan or some other temp monitoring software. Change the mounting setup if the HD temp goes too high. How important is it to check the temps? Before using the bubblewrap, it was...

The HDD is mounted into the Antec drive sled, which sits ontop of the clear boxes which they ship hard drives in, and is held using the two red rubber bands. Inside the clear box is full of bubble wrap... Probably not as good as suspending a hard drive, but it is extremely effective. Virtually all ...

Not exactly suspension. This is a Seagate 80GB HDD that vibrates a lot. I didn't hard mount it to the computer since it made so much vibration, that the steel panels would vibrate and resonate and drown out everything else. I resorted to putting onto one of the Antec drive sleds and sitting it on th...

My card temperature shot up extremly high when running both rthdribl along with prime95 and 3dmark03. My computer was extremly slowed down by this, it took several minuts to even get all the programs running simultaniously. But when I did, my load temperature shot from 62C to 85C! 62 is the max I h...

rthdribl is good. I pronounce it "rt-dribble" As for games, Age of Empires III heats up my card even hotter than rthdribl for some reason - and it started artifacting - whereas rthdribl, ATI tool and looped 3dmark05 never artifacted. Surprising huh? PS. Age of Empires III settings were all set to th...

Well, I've added a fan to my 'fanless' 6600GT. Drops load temps around 15 degrees Celsius (90 -->75) As you can see, I've wired it up to a switch on the PCI panel, and I only turn it on for gaming, and leave it on for a few minutes after to cool down the card. The fan itself isn't too noisy, I can h...

I have built a system with the Gigabyte mATX Socket A motherboard- not sure if its the same.. I think it was the GA7N400 model (SIS, VIA chipsets). Anyway, it reads at about 50 degrees idle, and 52 under full Prime95 load. Just dodgy motherboard readings. A somewhat more scientific test would be to ...

The Big Typhoon has a 120mm fan. You may have some clearance issues with the Antec Super Lanboy, since most Socket A motherboards put the CPU socket very close to the top of the motherboard, so heatsinks could have problems with the PSU so closeby. An ATX motherboard will have approximately 1cm clea...

Nice build, I like your cable management! My suggestions on possible places to cut down the noise(if you are not happy with it): - Have you tried removing the front intake fan- you could possibly cut down on noise there, with not much effect on temps. - Remove the PSU fan grill and the grill on the ...

This thread is quite interesting. I'm keeping on the stock cooler for now, since I paid so much money for it- I still like this card. With respect to the thermal compound, I can see (without taking the heatsink apart) some yellow gum between the core and the heatsink. However, it seems that they are...

Looking at the pictures on the previous page, I have a few questions: 1) Removing the heatsink will void the warranty- correct? 2) How much of a difference do you think using AS5 instead would make? 3) Is it really that difficult to get the heatsink back on- I'm not going to use aftermarket solution...
