I was wondering, with all this SLC vs MLC debate, what's the estimated read endurance of the drives? Essentially unlimited or? (I'm certain most of our drives read considerably more than write.) Reads do not degrade flash at all. It seems though that failures (from writing!) differs between MLC and...

Random writes were always the achilles heel of ssd, but 4 IOPS is truly risible. 250ms is not uncommon random-write access time for cheap flash such as USB sticks at all. But for a SSD it is terrible. Good to know anyway, and I will stay a LONG way away from this. You'd get better parallell random-...

Unfortunately, atleast cheap usb sticks are terrible performers with random access write times of 100-200 ms! Thats about 10-20x slower than disks. Also, there are these but for CF, I think CF might perform better honestly. Those dont do any RAID though, youd have to do that elsewhere by buying mult...

Sounds like you have a similar problem as I do:

My temps have always been very bogus. Too lazy to find out a fix anymore, I googled when I bought my AMD motherboard.

I "need" BIOS controls since I will not be running windows. :(

I know I can make it in linux, too, but it seems to be slightly too much hassle at the moment.

Low-power AM2+ motherboards

Which AM2+ boards have underclocking/voltage potential? Seems to be only a few available here in Sweden (6 or so) and I was hoping there was one enabling me to build a < 45w server (with no/2.5" disk, underclocked CPU, picoPSU).

These look incredibly good, I would looove a throrough SPCR review of both these! :)

Ive found some reviews but none that seem to look at it from the cooling perspective.

Nice, I have a Centurion 5 that is going to get a new AM2 motherboard soon (Running a Athlon XP 1400+ right now...). The only thing I am unsure about is the cooler. Sure, I want silent, but I am not willing to spend too much money on it. I assume the Centurion 5 should take most any cooler, size-wise?

Afaik there is no "idle RPM" on this drive, its either on or not spinning. I know of only drive that has lower-RPM idle.

Yes, I think the 200 and 250 are 125GB/platter.

S12 vs SS-401HT

A swedish website is claiming that SS-401HT is a bulk S12, or so it seems: "SS-401HT (Bulk S12) 400Watt" Is this right? I want the S12 of course, but its still not available in Sweden. According the seasonic website, the S12s are black, which is something I want, and they have different power-rating...

sandos, maybe you didn't completely understand the comments. Your mounting in the picture would be ok if the drive were vertical, not slanted. It does not have to be on the floor of the case, and heat can be a problem with your "insulation" arrangement, so being in the path of a fan is good. Well, ...

"Ghetto" hdd sound damping

I was looking for something we had in our home to silence my very whiny maxtor disk. Suspension did not help, hard-mounting did have a small negative effect but just suspending wasnt silent enough. http://knota.dyndns.org/~sandos/ghetto.jpg So I used these scotchbrites! I think you would be amazed a...

wow, that is good. that shg.biz are getting seasonics that is. i wonder what exactly the 400W is, since seasonic only make 380 and 430W S-12s. i've mailed them about it. i am worried that the 500W is noiser than the 430 W, which i'd prefer. I was startled over this aswell, since I killed one of my ...

I got one of these for my birthday, very nice! Just finished mounting it, and it is quiet! It s a nidec, so I guess I was lucky. To illustrate just how quiet it is, or rather how painfully my other hdds sound, I can spin the Samsung up/down and not even _notice_ the sound from 20cm away. I hard-moun...
