thanks. I'm not sure how to bend that accurately. For my application, that level of precision isn't necessary. If the aluminum is thin enough, you can score it with a utility knife, and it will bend along the score quite nicely. I usually sandwhich the aluminum between two boards, and make the bend ...

I made some inside panels and the graphic for the top panel last night. It's starting to look really clean inside. I can't wait to get started on the mobo shield. I have the plans made, and the sizes down. I just have to make a cardboard one and do some last minute tweaking before I start bending th...

I'm also going to make a motherboard cover to hide all of the yellow on the motherboard. Here's what I'm going to make (rough sketch...not scaled properly): http://www.studiosevensolutions.com/slk3700/diagram.gif The black strips are velcro. I want this to be easily removable. The velcro will be com...

It's a mess right now, but I just wanted to get the dfi board in and tinker with it. When I'm done with the mobo cover.....you won't see ANY wires :D (well......maybe the power lead f...

update: I got a Thermaltake Bigwater Kit for my birthday from my wife (isn't that awesome....my wife actually took the time to get me something for my hobby....even though she thinks it's a waste of time and $) It really does perform good. My cpu at load is about 10c cooler than what it w...

As far as a PSU is concerned, I just installed a Seasonic Super Tornado 300w, and couldn't be happier. It's VERY quiet.

As for cpu heatsink/fan reccomendations, I have a Zalman 7000cu on my a64 2800+, and it's also VERY quiet.

acceptable temperatures seem to be a matter of preference. Some like their CPU's water cooled and in the 30's, others will sacrifice temperature for less noise and run cpu's in the 50's and 60's. If the 45 is your cpu, I wouldn't worry. That's not an outrageously high idle temp (assuming it's idle)....

Speedfan does monitor temps. Depending on your motherboard, you might even be able to control fan speeds. If you're thinking of getting a 6600gt, you're probably going to use this system for gaming. If that's the case, a passive cooling solution for your cpu probably won't suffice. See if speedfan w...

I installed it. The Super Tornado is AWESOME!!!! It never ramps up, and it's helping my airflow. I seriously can't hear it over the room's ambient noise. I've done a few other mods to my case to increase airflow as well. Pics and descriptions are here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?...

I'm not going for huge overclocks. I don't have an AGP/PCI lock on my motherboard, so I couldn't go very high even if I wanted to. I just want silence. My NV silencer 5 is too loud :). EDIT: I will be overclocking my 6800gt, but that doesn't seem to change the temps a whole lot. Usually only ~5c or ...

So a single 120mm in the front with the fan @ 5v is enough? If that's the case, I think I'll leave the rear 120mm fan, and add a passive intake in the front somewhere for more cool air to enter the case (maybe by the 5.25 bays where my HD is suspended). Also.....I told my wife I wanted a ThermalTake...

My Water Cooled 3700BQE Project

I got the SPCR bug really, REALLY bad. My system MUST be as quiet as possible. Right now, it's pretty good. I can just barely hear my system over the ambient room noise....but that's not good enough. I want my system to run quiet AND cool. I have a water cooling system planned for it. Here are some ...

Cool, that's good to hear. Would you say the pump is as quiet as a good low rpm 120mm fan?

What are the specs on the machines you run the bigwater kits on? And what kind of temps do you get?

I have a 120mm silenx laying around that I might use.

Thermaltake BigWater noise levels?

If anyone has a BigWater kit, can you tell me how quiet the pump is? Most review sites don't touch on the noise level of the pump. They just say that it's "quiet". But that's obviously not good enough for the SPCR croud ;)

Any input would be great!

Thanks for all the input. I'll post a follow-up when I get the PSU.

I think removing the drive cage in my 3700BQE will help my airflow a lot too. It's far too restrictive on the front intake. I really don't want to modify my case, but I might have to in order to get a decent airflow without turning my rear 120 up. It's a shame that Antec designed the drive cage the ...

Cool, that's good to hear. I guess I shouldn't worry until I get it and test it myself. Thanks for the info. But just in case......if there's anyone that runs the fan at a fixed 5v without heat issues, let me know. "Very Quiet" still bugs me :P Pauli: Just out of pre-psu-ups-delivery-curiousity, how...

Seasonic Super Tornado 300W A3 Mod?

Hello, I am fairly new to the forum, and have become EXTREMELY addicted to quietness in the last few weeks. This forum is dangerous. Optical Drive Cooling?

I have a question about airflow around optical drives....how important is it? I'm insulating my case to make it quieter, and I'm planning on filling in the empty spaces (unused drive bays) with foam (but not where it will block airflow). I would like to use foam below my optical drive to fill the re...
