Re: Help! My whole network seems capped at 1300 MTU

Some months ago I upgraded my home server and desktop from onboard / USB-connected 1Gb ethernet to Intel PRO/1000 PT. At that time I also did some superficial research into jumbo frames, and simply decided it was absolutely not worth it. The main issue is that in order to use jumbo frames you need t...

Re: Quiet 24" monitor

@ the guys with the ZR24W, are you sure there is no noise diffrence when ur using diffrent brightness (common problem with lcd's). There's no noise either way as far as I can tell. I can hear the difference in several LCDs, so I'm quite confident that ZR24w is better than average noise-wise. Shame ...

Re: My Shiney New Gigabyte HD 5750 Silent Cell & OC Benchmar

I'm thinking of buying one of these for my HTPC and am trying to find out if it would fit it into my Antec Fusion Black Case (http://store.antec.com/Category/enclosure-itx.aspx). I bought (and later returned) a similar passively cooled HD5750 made by Club3D as it didn't fit into my NSK2480. The cas...

I think you are overreacting a little bit. I have owned a few MSI boards and with modern boards I have always used a USB stick to flash the BIOS. I have never flashed a BIOS from within Windows. I have an old 64MB USB stick that acts as a Win98 bootdisk that I mainly use for flashing both MBs and g...

as long as you weren't getting random lockups or restarts in Windows you probably should have just done that from the beginning instead of messing around with their USB flash tool. Live and learn I suppose. Still the issue remains for quite a few users who don't have the option (or will) to run Win...

I'd assume there's a Windows flash utility available. Maybe not an option for your particular situation, but seems kind of unfair to say that MSI doesn't provide reasonable methods of flashing the BIOS just because you couldn't use other methods available. Also, I know MSIs new 785G board has a fla...

MSI BIOS flash problem - warning!

I recently bought an MSI K9A2GM-FIH motherboard for my PhenomII X3 home server/HTPC (running Linux). The MB did not recognize the new CPU correctly, so I thought I'd update the BIOS, which has never been much of a hassle with my Asus or Gigabyte MBs. With MSI it was a different story however. The of...

The new AVG 8.0 function that does this scanning is an option that can be omitted. Refer to the Tweaking Companion on the Tweak Guides site for info on configuring AVG for unobtrusive operation. Yes, it can be omitted but if the program then shows an error state in the tray icon it is still annoyin...

I'd be concerned about the lifespan of the CPU if it's hitting 70C peaks. With the case exhaust and duct fan extracting...you may be a bit restricted on your inlets. If you can duct even some cooler room air to the inboard side of the CPU heatsink you should get some temp drop. Maybe a couple of pi...

What's wrong with that mobo? It should OV just fine, but if you do so, make sure you disable EIST & Speedstep in the BIOS, they'll cause problems. However, considering your temps, I wouldn't advise it. They are to high with that modest OC, I'd double check your mounting. Thanks again for sharing yo...

While your build looks nice it's probable that you could drop 4 of your 8 fans and drop the RPM of the remaining ones by ~30% without a significant difference in temperatures. My computer is quite similar to yours (P182, Q6600@3GHz, 8800GTS OC) and I have 4 fans altogether. The difference is that I ...

8800GTS ducting with HR-03+ in P182

I did some ducting to get rid of the relatively noisy stock cooler on my factory overclocked 8800GTS while retaining the feature of exhausting the hot air directly out of the case. It required two duct iterations to get the job done: the first duct failed miserably while the second improved one is w...
