More and better technology...

More good news...
Smaller, cheaper and faster memory will hit the market later this year and SSD seems to be the main target.

OCZ SUMMIT

I didn't notice before but there is also another properly cached SSD model from OCZ, named "SUMMIT", comming out very soon. See preview: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=666 The most interesting part about that is that it uses a new Samsung controller, which probably implies that we will see the...

I have a Solo based machine with E8200 (overclocked and undervolted), one 74 GB Raptor system HD + 500 GB Samsung + 640 GB WD. The GPU is a passive 8600 GT but one that occupies two slots and where air is drawn through grills in the second slot. The CPU cooler is passive and the only fans in the sys...

Storage Review

Storage Review has put up a comparison between the original VRaptor WD3000BLFS and a more recent release WD3000GLFS. The BLFS noise was 37.6 db/A @ 3mm The GLFS noise was 41.4 db/A @ 3mm http://www.storagereview.com/php/benchmark/suite_v4.php?typeID=10&testbedID=4&osID=6&raidconfigID=1&numDrives=1&d...

The ambient temperature in the lab where I have the P182 and the Antec Solo workstations is between 25 - 30 Celsius at the moment. While I wouldn't go to say the P182 is magic, I must say I haven't tried anything that is as efficient. It turns out the new Antec Solo build can't keep quite the same l...

It is probably not necessary to have more than one case fan in P182. I have a workstation here built around P182 containing: Intel E6850 (3 GHz) on a passive heatsink, NVidia 8600GT (passive), one Raptor 74 GB and two Samsung 500 GB harddisks. Motherboard is Asus P5K-E WiFi. The PSU is a Corsair 520...

I got all three Nexus PWM fans (80, 92, 120) and compared them with the classic ones. I even rigged them up side by side outside the computer and made sound recordings to try and determine differences. I drove all fans from my ASUS MB and checked RPM with Speedfan. However, it was difficult to draw ...

Visco-elastic glue

Have you considered using visco-elastic glue or other such products for panels when lining things (like doors) or perhaps on the floor? A correctly implemented visco-elastic panel absorbs 8 - 16 db worth of vibration. This technology is frequently used in high end speakers, vehicles, buildings where...

Overkill ?

You have a surprising amount of fans for a P182. You don't mention your hardware but it seems completely overkill. I recently built a machine around the P182 with a 3 GHz 65 nm Core Duo, a passive 8600 GT, one 74 GB Raptor and two 500 GB Samsungs. The CPU is cooled passively and I manage to keep eve...

I burned a fan recently, presumably because of undervolting below start rpm. It was one of those 80 mm Revoltec led fans that wasn't very quiet. The fan made a high pitched whine when struggling with the too low startup voltage.

All is good because now I just get the nice light without any noise ....

I have had all three (80, 92, 120) of the new Nexus PWM fans in possession for a couple of days. My plan was to use my rather silent PC (all passive except Seasonic PSU)...

Tagan

I choose the Tagan PSUs after a lot of web research and practical experiments. They are really well designed and have massive heatsinks. This makes it possible for the temperature controlled fans to run at idle even when the computer is drawing full power. They may not be as efficient as SeaSonic bu...

Well - it will cost exactly as much as two fans because that's what it is. The "DuoProp" will be one standard right handed fan, stacked on top of a standard left handed fan. They only have to develop a mirrored propeller and then they can sell left handed fans as a standard produkt. Enthusiasts can ...

DuoProp ?

I would think that the most silent and efficient design would be a counter rotating, dual prop fan assembly. The idea is to achieve something like the DuoProp design used by Volvo-Penta for marine propulsion. The counter rotating propellers achieve higher efficiency by reducing turbulence. All it wo...
