Coil whine from VDSL connection
A few days ago, my system developed a very annoying, high frequency constant coil whine. I assumed it was the PSU in my PC and began investigating... but found out it was not the PSU at all. The whine was coming from my VDSL router. I assumed it was the power supply... wrong again, the whine is pres...

Re: WD Red 6TB and Red 1TB (2.5-inch) HDDs
Idle noise is really excellent on the 6TB drive (much lower than I expected); I wonder if it's possible to use AAM to reduce seek noise.

Re: HD 7850 reviews
Further details after more tests, this could be useful if you choose this card (even with the issue, I definitely recommend it!). You cannot independently set 2D and 3D memory clocks on this card, but you can still use a workaround: AMD does not allow a memory clock more than 150MHz lower than the c...

Re: HD 7850 reviews
Just built a system with the Powercolor HD7850 SCS3. No problem at all with temperatures in a case with decent airflow (Antec P183 with two fans @800rpm); they reach 75°C after two hours at full load. The memory clock issue is still there, it's fixed by default at 1200MHz and idle power is high. How...

I'm not sure that you can disable NCQ -- if the controller supports it (as it does on the nForce4 SATA controller), then it is enabled. I did not find any way in the BIOS or any other way to disable or enable it. It should be something like "Configure SATA as" [AHCI | Standard IDE | RAID]; you shou...

Seagate 7200.8: NCQ and AAM
I was doing some research on various sites about the 7200.8 (I've just bought a 400GB SATA; I knew it was not the most silent choice, but I needed 400GB). Some sites are claiming the 7200.8 is much quieter than the 7200.7, some sites are saying it's louder. I also found a bit strange that enabling N...

What application are you using to underclock your 9800Pro? What sort of passive cooling are you using? Did you replace the stock HSF, or did you disable the fan? I'm using ATItool; 150/150 is the default, it switches to 378/338 on 3D, then gets back to 150/150. I'm using a Zalman ZM-80C passive hea...
