Re: New Build, need fan advice
I don't think there was not enough room to pull that off effectively. No, it won't work. However, where is the louder 160GB Caviar SE? Let me know if anyone has a further suggestions for the HDD suspention or fan configuration! If the room under the optical disk is available, you may use a NoiseMag...

Re: New Build, need fan advice
Here's a pic of my finished build. I put a slipstream (800 RPM) on the top exhaust and a Slipstream PWM on the cooler. I used my old S-flex as the intake fan. I tried suspending the WD Caviar Blue 500GB in the cage with magic string, but I don't think there was not enough room to pull that off effec...

Re: New Build, need fan advice
It's a 500 WD Caviar Blue 160GB model #: WD5000AAKS. Well, it can't be so: either you have a 160GB Caviar Blue (the WD1600AAJS or the WD1600AAJB), or you have a 500GB Caviar Blue (the WD5000AAKS). Sorry about the mixup! I actually own both a 500gb WD Caviar Blue #WD50000AAKS and a 160gb Caviar Blue...

Re: New Build, need fan advice
Can someone suggest a good fan set-up for my build? You need to go into the BIOS and set all the fans to Auto if they are not already set that way. Then install the Asrock eXtreme Tuning Utility (AXTU) software. Using the AXTU fan controls it should be possible to set the CPU fan (provided it is 4-...

Re: New Build, need fan advice
I received my display finally and hooked up the new build. I used the old fans from my previous build for now, with the Scythe S-Flex going to the heatsink (it's whisper quiet there) and the Nexus as my only case fan. I can set targets using the ASRock extreme tweaking utility for the CPU and both c...

Re: New Build, need fan advice
Luca, Thanks for the advice and helping with the fan choice. I'll probably go with 1 intake fan/1 exhaust/1 heatsink because of the way the case sits under my desk, 2 intake is probably overkill. Also, on closer inspection of the manual only 1 CHA fan can be controlled through the bios so I will loo...

New Build, need fan advice
Last time I built a PC (AMD Socket 939) was like six years ago but I used SPCR to learn and that PC was near dead silent. This is Multimedia/Audio PC that will sit in my living room. Music is also a big hobby of mine, so noise level is important to me. There were some good sales going on so I though...

What do I do with my dead Phantom 350?
My Antec Phantom 350 died just about 5 months past the warranty. I feel bad just chucking this hulking piece of metal and plastic in the garbage (environmentally speaking). I replaced with a Corsair 450 PSU and it's quiet and provides more reliable power. I had weird problems with the Antec from the...

I have a fairly new WD1600 JD (Sata). If I'm working on the CPU with the case open the seek noise seems a little loud to me. Closing the case (which sits below me in the desk almost on the floor) it's barely noticable. I can only hear a 'whine' if I put my ear right next to it. My WD is suspended wi...

Can't comment on the A8N-E but I just finished build a with the Asus A8V and 'Cool and Quiet' does NOT have any affect on the fan speed, just the processor voltage. So a manual fan controller in combo with 'Cool and Quiet' would have been the only way for me to take advantage of it to lower noise. S...

EndoSteel - Thanks for your opinion. I didn't initially think it was the Phantom either. The re-boots aren't random but usually tied to RAM intensive task. I will check the event viewer tonight when I get home. What's the best way to check the event viewer BTW (I'm a little new to this)? EDIT - got ...

Is my Phantom 350 Defective?
My new build has been everything I'd hoped for EXCEPT that every so often, it will re-start automatically. It only happens during RAM intensive tasks like loading large samples (into a soft sampler) or when I make make any changes in the Bios to increase performance (like automatic overclock 3% or s...

I followed ALL the steps and couldn't get it to work on my Asus A8V-Deluxe either - had the same exact problem, so you are not crazy. In the meantime I have upgraded to the latest Bios (I had a slightly older version) - haven't had time to try C'n'Q on it yet, but Asus hasn't been on point with all ...

Oliver, Can't get exact measurements right now (I'm moving and all my stuff is boxed up) but I would say they are slightly larger than pinholes, probably 1mm. Just small enough where I wouldn't worry about dust that much. WRT the hard drive - I do hear a slightly audible whine. I'm still new this bu...

So far so good The build is finished & my CPU runs at about 30c with a 120mm rear case fan and the 90mm CPU fan (Both nexus). I'm new to this but I think that's okay. I'll probably leave the case as is (maybe buy some blue lights for it :D) Oliver, WRT the holes - the 1.5 inch diameter 'round holes'...

Thanks for your suggestions. After spending a few hours in a quiet room w/ the new build, I was only able to just slightly hear the case fan and HD so your suggestions are right on - undervolt the fan & suspend the HD! m0002a - The Antec HD cage looks similar to my Mars 5603 but your brackets are di...

This was my first build but I was lucky enough to have an engineer at work willing to walk me through it during lunch breaks. Having access to everything in the workshop made life much easier. I installed an A8V deluxe yesterday with a XP-90/Nexus on my 'first build'. Great combination - very quiet, easy to install - just had to fiddle with clips a little on the heatsink to secure the Nexus fan (my only gripe). Also I had no problem getting the A8V to post with a Venice CPU and 2 sticks o...

Yes, the holes are completely open, so that's what I'm mainly concerned about with regard to airflow. The blue you see in the picture is 'lighting'. Since I'm using the Phantom350 (which has a blue light), my case may look like the one pictured if the Phantoms light is powerful enough to light the c...

Thanks for the answers so far I have a slipstreamed XP/SP2 so that's good to know, especially since I have no floppy. Is there any reason why I would want RAID? Which 160GB drive?
I'm building a quiet PC/DAW (first time) and kind of overwhelmed by the HD selection. I'm looking at a 160GB Samsung SP & Seagate Barracuda. Leaning heavily towords the Samsung, since It's so well liked and perfomance is as good (or better) than Seagate Barracuda (according to SPCR comparison). I'm ...
