Thanks for the addition Freelancer77. Question. I had intended to cover the top hole but after reading the second part of the review my intentions have changed. Given the temps of the GPU and the suggested reasons would this make sense? Remove the top fan keeping the slot open. Create a duct that in...

I found this: http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=379858 UPDATE 6/17/05: Many boards are starting to ship with a voltage regulator modification that removes this requirement. Look for the three post regulator close to the sound chipset. The bord is the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI and the requirement ...

The latest response from MSI did not answer the question directly. Their response was to download these x64 sound drivers from Creative.

I see nothing about these drivers that say using them eliminates the need for a -5V wire.

 I picked out the case. Once the case arrived the MoBo was chosen. Now, I have to start over? :x To summarize, in late April and early May the threads began indicating that the -5V wire was no longer necessary. However, another thread had a post dated May 20 that the -5V wire was still necessa...

I would think that taping it shut would interfere with the fan that will now be used to cool the fanless heatsink? :P Ok, kidding aside. You overlooked the previous paragraph which stated Now, with this heat sink it appears that it can be nicely run without a fan because of the two exhaust fans on t...

Antec P180, using top fan but covering holes in the hood

It looks like I will be using the new Scythe Ninja cpu heat sink. No, not because of it's name or size. If I liked flash I would NOT be getting the P180 and I happen to like the looks of the P180. Nice and clean. Now, with this heat sink it appears that it can be nicely run without a fan because of ...

I completely missed the Scythe review. Thanks! Given that I'm getting the Antec P180 case this heatsink should work in a fanless mode. :D The plan was to seal off the top fan opening but now I probably won't. One minor thing in the review that bothers me. It kept saying we were unable to test (even ...

Sounds good. It surprised me that Thermaltake only says it handles up to a 3200. Perhaps they are being conservative.

No overclocking for me!

Yes, various boards have various issues. For the MSI Neo4 Platinum it is the DIMM1 becomes unusable.

Toms is about the biggest Intel shill on the internet. Combine that with their fairly poor methodology and note the results. Note that in this particular "review", they're comparing an seriously OCed Dothan against a non-OCed AMD CPU. Their benches are also skewed towards ones that showcase Intel p...

You can even get the PDF for the mechanical drawings :-) To save you a couple of clicks, they are : 150*140*86 mm (5.9" *5.5" *3.4") DOH! I never saw the "Download... pdf" link. Thanks. Re the "cover" when not using the top fan -- this was discussed at some point, but long after the build was "fixed" (for the first run anyway). All Hail Mike. All Hail Antec. I would have thought that Antec would want to sell this case with the 500W Hybrid Phantom (as the 350W might not power everyone system). Will the Phantom 500 fit? Thanks for interpreting my confused and erroneous verbage describing the PSU fans. The SCSI drives are not over heating, as far as I can tell. I thought that an intake fan at the lower front of the case would help the flow of air to be directed over the mobo and up into the exhaust fan and out of th...

Are you sure that *both* of the fans on the power supply are exhausts? Typically, the fan inside the case (at the top of the motherboard) pulls in from the case into the power supply, and the fan at the back is the exhaust. After rereading what I wrote I realized the confusion. Plus, from your stat...

All you need is one nexus running at 650rpm or less. (intake). So why would two be quieter? The first thing to do is get rid of the fans you don't need and turn the other ones down. An Acoustifan is noisy at top speed, but quiet at around 650. If you're computer is still noisy after you get the fan...

MikeC says he never uses two intake fans, why?

http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=19297 On April 19, 2005 MikeC stated the following BTW, I'd never use two intake fans and I'd never have any fan in the front of the case running anywhere higher than ~800rpm. High back pressure from high impedance is simply not an issue with any PC I...
