Re: Ultrasonic SSD?

I don't know where you can get a 850 EVO for € 100 but typically prices are around € 160 for 500 GB so that is a bit misconstrued here. The relative difference between a 500GB disk for € 160 and a regular 3.5" WD Blue coming in at €50 for 1TB is still a factor 6. You point to 128GB disks. But you y...

Re: Ultrasonic SSD?

Just laziness really. "Why don't you do it well?" "It's not needed, your SSD will handle it". I can live with that. The time someone would "waste" on optimizations for hdds could be spent on other features etc. Just because a ssd costs peanuts today. I remember late 2012, when i got a 60GB vertex3 ...

Re: Ultrasonic SSD?

How big are your SSDs these days? A few days ago i bought a brand new 850 evo - 500GB for 100 euros. Made two partitions: 80GB for win, the rest for games. It's good that these toys are bigger every year and the price/GB is going down all the time. Fighting ssds is a waste of time. No sane person s...

Re: Intel Pentium G4400 & Intel H110 Power Consumption: 15 w

I use an APC UPC to measure. Here is what i got form an idle headless build: 8.4W - 10.5W

g3258 (box cooler)
h81 - GA-H81M-DS2
1 4GB DDR3 dimm - 1.5V
1 sata ssd
psu: Antec EA-380D

------------------

Got similar idle values with an i3 4170 and a b85 Asrock mobo, same ssd, same ram, same psu, ~10W.

"what is your time worth?" Exactly. A mounting kit without any work might be worth it, just for fun, but wasting time on modding... For fun, check this out. Some have done mods with it, in 2005! http://archive.techarp.com/showarticle9dba.html?artno=246&pgno=0 http://archive.techarp.com/showarticle6...

Re: Silencing an NZXT S340

That's right. The starting voltage for DC is an issue. I avoid turning them off. At ~300 RPM a good non defective 12CM makes no noise. PWM fans should be the first choice when looking for a fan. I don't think many mobos have the DC or PWM bios option and will only control 4 pin fans on the 4 pin hea...

Re: Silencing an NZXT S340

I was under the impression the PWM was beneficial in some way because it allowed for smoother control of a fan's RPM, I guess I was reading too many marketing blurbs  I will take this 1 step further. DC is better than PWM! Some PWM fans have "hard coded" a too high minimum speed. If you plug t...

Speedfan support is my number one feature. If i want to buy a mobo and it doesn't work with speedfan ----> instant ignore.

My asus z97-a has 5 (five) headers that work with speedfan, PWM or DC! I don't think something beating this exists. Pure heaven!

Do you want this 350W psu? http://www.silentpcreview.com/Super_Flower_Golden_Green_350W_PSU As you will not have a GPU and no spinning hard drive, keeping this pc dead silent will be a joke. Something to do with CPU power saving. C7, C3, whatever. You watch some youtube clip, or listen to music and a matrix like stutter occurs for a few milliseconds. 14nm will use less power than 22nm at the same voltage and clock ----> less heat, less noise as you can run the fans lower at load. Plus, what if any 6700k could run at 5Ghz with under 1.2V? Sure, no one expects the 6700k to blow away the 4790k at stock speeds. But the potential overclock ...

Re: silent mATX as workstation/gaming pc

Think again about the cpu and mobo. This is the worst time to splurge on high end stuff, as the launch of a new geenration in august is a big deal. It's the first jump in nm since long. We had 3770k, 4770k, 4790k --> all on 22nm. The 6700k will be 14nm --> lower power draw, colder, maybe higher over...

some modern motherboars can control 3-pin non-PWM fans connected to 4-pin PWM headers. As you see on page 3 of the review, one can chose PWM or DC mode. Does this...

I was thinking of a psu for a modern fileserver (~g haswell), with ~8-10 3.5" hard drives. At idle, with al the drives sleeping, it can't pull more than 25W. Cpu at 100% and all the drives on should be ~100W. What is a good PSU for something like this?
