Re: Intel DH77DF, finally a silent system

There is no electronic buzzing in any situation Recently put a rig together with this board after my Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3 buggered out on me. It is the first MB I've owned that has no buzz or whine whatsoever. Quite pleased with it and yes, pretty much silent from arms length away. - Intel DH77DF ...

Yes, it fits without blocking PCI-e or memory slots.

Have a look over here.

Just cover the ATX PSU hole with hardboard that has a small hole drilled for power jack to PicoPSU.

Probably a matter of perspective, but I'd also question that. In particular the noise level of pump in the Corsair, though you probably can't hear it over the PSU and GFX fans. :)

This would be my first time with PicoPSU too, but as far as I understand, that's all you need, unless you have GFX that need auxiliary power. Then, afaik, you have to get molex splitter cable to GFX auxiliary power. It is allot of money to spend at once, but not so bad if you have a power brick lyin...

They're not silent, no, but they're pretty darn quiet.

Besides, is there such a thing as a silent 500GB HDD?

I may be grabbing air here as I have no experience with this board, but I'm wondering if enabling it in another system (non Asus "A.I. Quiet" board) and then moving back to yours, would work...?

When I reopen the program, it says Current is 254... Even if I change it and don't close it, but just tab to another tab and go back, it reverts back to Current = 254.
Hmmm, that's really odd.
Ideas?
I have a hunch.

Try it with only one drive connected.

No enclosure that I'm aware of will silence a noisy hard drive.

For most of these enclosures, you'd need a quiet drive to start off with.

No need to save, just click on enable or move the slider to the left until you see 128 in current and enabled (and a green dot next to it) in the top right corner, then just close.

Yes, I've successfully enabled AAM with HDDScan on mine.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the WD5000KS, myself. Quick question.... I used the Hitachi Feature Tool to enable AAC for my WD5000KS drives - and reduced it to the minimum 128... but when I go back into the Feature Tool, it shows 254 as the setting. It's as if the settings aren't "sticking"... any ide...

I concur, the stock cooler is (amazingly) very quiet. The only thing that I don’t like is that upon startup the fan blows at full volume for about 2-3 seconds before the software control kicks in.

Same here. I've got the WD1600JS and temp reading is currently at 59C, yet the drive is reasonably cool to the touch.
I sure hope they release a new firmware to fix this. I really like this drive a lot, very quiet with AAM enabled.
