Doesn't your PSU run a little hot with an 1800rpm fan (stock=3000rpm)?

Not usually. Some people cover them with hot melt glue to stop them resonating.

i have all 3 of those fans. The D12SL-12 has some chatter/ticking at full speed, but when slowed to <900rpm it disappears and sounds just like a Nexus Real Silent 120mm.

The SFF21F has a rather smooth noise signature. At full speed it's mostly just wind noise.

Approx how much clearance is there between the PSU and the top cover?

Are you sure your Ninja Rev.B isn't defective? Using the same fan (Nexus Real Silent 1000rpm) my Ninja Rev.B is no more then 5ºC hotter then my Ultra-120 Extreme. So it should be about 3ºC hotter then the Ninja v1. For it to be 6-10ºC higher seems... excessive. I tested this on a OC'ed Opteron 17...

The M3 (can't remember if it was the 3.2 twin turbo or the newer 4 litre version) had better MPG at the end of the lap. There is no such thing as a turbocharged M3. All M-cars have high revving naturally aspirated engines. The current M3 has a 4 liter V8 engine but I think the M3 in that Top Gear e...

Re: A Quiet UltraPowerful PC

A note : I have a diagnosed ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and have Hypersensitivity. If I say something is really quiet, to the average person it's inaudible. Loud for me is things like the click noise a door makes when it shuts and the latch engages, or the snapping up of buttons on a jacket. Yet...

The difference in power consumption is probably because the card runs at a lower GPU voltage.

i have the Gigabyte 7600GT in my main rig. The HR-03 heatpipes stuck out too much on the Leadtek 6600GT and the case lid didn't fit on, so i installed the HR-03 on my 7600GT, and put the gigabyte heatsink on my 6600GT :) They are both 3.5" drives (the photo is deceiving) and the cage is a very tight...

Old Dog, New Tricks: My HTPC

I've had this HTPC for a while but it has (over 2 years) finally got to the stage where i can consider it quiet :) It started off as pretty much worst case scenario. The chipset had a 6000rpm fan, gfx card fan wore out almost immediately, the CPU cooler often ramped up to 5000rpm, the PSU fan was DO...

Nice, but i still doubt your load temps are 50C with a passive ninja. 50C with Smart Guardian right? thats probably about 60-70C from the CPUs diode (with Speedfan/Coretemp) since the DFI's CPU temp reading is way off (10-20C too low). When my opty is at 50C (measured by Speedfan/Coretemp) Smartguar...

I have three of the RS-430-PCAR. They are very quiet + stable. An awesome PSU for the price :)

I would steer clear of the higher powered ones as apparently they are louder then the 430W - who needs more then 430W in a quiet PC anyway :p

If you want to get good temperatures lap your CPU. It is a common problem with Core2s that the edges of the IHS are raised. This causes poor contact in the middle of the CPU. The AS5 should be almost completely squeezed away not just still in a flattened blob. You can see it in this pic (edges have ...
