Why not try both and measure?
Doesnt your motherboard tell you its temperature?
Surely that would be quicker than drawing all that diagram and waiting for replies in the forum...

Yes, bad experience apparently. Search for "silenX" on the forums, apparently they can't be trusted.Plotinus wrote:Does anyone on this forum have any experience with this fan?

I just had a look at papst's website ( although I don't really trust their figures... ) and their thick fans seem to be a little bit noisier and provide a little bit less airflow than the thin ones ! their max static pressure is not specified ( but that is not very useful for us, in computing... ) S...

thick vs thin fans
Are thick fans ( 32 or 38 mm thick ) any more interesting than standard 25mm thick fans?
Are thin fans any useful?

there are Y-splitters for 3-pin fans.
I bought some from www.leftclicks.co.uk
The RPM sensing works for 1 of the fans.
Fans don't draw much power, so it should be ok unless the motherboard has a special limitation to prevent fans from overheating if they get stopped...

as a general rule, installing several fans in series in a computer is pretty useless. Installing them in parallel would be better, but apparently you can't do that on this heatsink, because the only openings are the fans openings... Same thing for the case fans: instead of having the front ones blow...

I found a page that explains it clearer : http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~nmb/fans/engineer/data/multiple.htm It shows why in our situation ( "low system impedance"), there is a big improvement when using fans in parallel, and nearly no improvement when using them in series. And it's the other way ro...

Another thing to note is the current that these fans draw at 12 and 6 volts. My guess is that the fan will draw half the current at 6v (you can easily test this). This amounts to 25% power and although RPM and CFM remain at 50% (I was wrong on the RPM of this fan) something is lost. When you say "s...

The akasa fans in the silent series are not black, they are made of clear and orange plastic. http://www.akasa.co.uk/product_menu/fan_interface.htm Click on "ultra quiet fans" . If you can't see black fans there, then there is something wrong with your browser or your eyesight or something EDIT: so...

I would recommend the Zalman ZM-F1 80 mm fan in silent mode. I have very bad experience with Papst silent 80 mm case fans. These fans are silent but they vibrate a lot. They vibrate so much that they transfer the vibrtations to my aluminium Lian-Li 6070 case. The vibration noise is very disturbing....

Akasa amber series, anyone?
Here in UK we get quite a lot of Akasa products... I know that some of it is excellent ( e.g. "carnival" cpu coolers ) and some of it is junk ( e.g. "paxfan" "ultra quiet" ball bearing fan, which should have been called "ultra-clicking" ). They have new fans that they called "amber series", for whic...

120 mm fan > 80 mm cooler ?
Has anyone try to install a 120 (or 92 ) mm fan on a CPU cooler that is designed for 80mm fans?
With one of those 120 > 80 plastic fan adapters...
I'm thinking about making my CPU cooler a bit quieter without replacing it ... (lazy, I know)

No matter where you mount the fan, it's going to screw up the airflow anyways. Sideways = heats up other column. Dead on = ineffective. Have more imagination! I would put no fan in the middle, and put 1 fan on each side, both blowing inwards (the middle gap being the exhaust) or both blowing outwar...

Re: Neo Classic Mods + supersonic hearing
I also plan on removing the rear 80mm case fans, cracking out the tin snips and replacing with a 120mm low db fan. The theory being the 120mm fan would move more air than the dual 80mm with similar or less noise Are you sure? I think it would be very similar... For example, if your 8cm fans generat...

best way to block unwanted case fan holes ?
Hi I have a case with 5 holes for 8cm fans ( 2 front, 2 rear, 1 side ) and I want some of them to be shut so that I control the air flow. Any suggestions for blocking them properly ? I'm planning to have most case fans blowing inwards, so there will probably be a positive pressure inside the case. I...
