How would you subjetively describe the noise? I want a rig capable of playing crysis et al and an overclocked 8200 + coolink silentator + 8800 gts + cm960 crossed my mind. But if your computer is very very quiet, may be a 8800 gt coupled with your exhast-through-the-top configuration would sport a h...

DonQ, I know Cherry sells laser engraved and two color injection molding keycap keyboards. I don't know if there are other options like chemical/mechanical engraving. They are advertised as suitable for extended wear so they should last a lot. Some keycaps in my ultra X flat show small signs of wear...

I am a programmer and have reduced my system noise (plus I am working in a cpu duct to cut noise even more). We heavy typist need good keyboards and the very best are undoubtely noisy mechanical keyboards with nice tactile feedback. It is a fact that your brain requires a kind of confirmation to kno...

qviri, maybe it is me but it looks like you are a little bit displeased with the latest of Bluefront't political statements. Don't look at it as some political rant against democrats but as a description of human nature. People who are diagnosed an incurable disease suddenly become more receptive to...

Best fan mounting direction/orientation

I wondered if there is a better fan mounting position (blowing up, blowing down, vertical ...) for noise and/or bearings wear reasons. I read sleeve bearing fans should not be mounted horizontally, but what about ball bearing fans? And what category do fluid bearing, nidec nbr bearing, nano ceramic ...

My personal experience tells me Seagate drives are quite strong. I don't remember of any dying on me and I have 6 now mounted in different boxes in my work room. I have read top of the line WD are even better but my experience is mostly Seagate.

Looks to me you could simply select the best fans from the batch, lap the blades with lots of care not to bend them and rebalance the fans as the papsts (is it possible to make that operation without expensive equipment?). You could also swap the 3 braces attaching the rotor to the frame by 3 thin r...

Yep, but I live in a small archipelago. I can't go to any computer store here and phisically touch an Antec P180 with my hands. Well, may be if I book one they could ship it and have it in a few weeks time together with a Phantom 550 ... looks tempting.

Two people have said they find Maxtors less reliable. Well, probably you are true. I said what it looked like to me by the manufacturers specs. Anyway, the 5 year Seagate warranty hints us they produce robust drives. Yes, I guess more reliable than Maxtor. Anyway, there is no point in discussing thi...

I have a spinpoint 160 gb drive. It is noticeably quieter than a seagate 200 gb that replaced it due to failure. It seems a few sectors are broken. I'll try to mount it on linux and recover some interesting info I had there. Hopefully, a good chunk of the drive should be accessible still. Well, the ...

In Tenerife. If you live in Madrid, I am quite sure you can find many more PSU brands. Here: Fortron, 3R (or R3 systems), Zalman, Qtec & Antec is everything I have found. With Zalman, you pay brand recognition (liberal translation: "an egg and part of the other"). Their 400 model was manufactured by...

Hiya guys. Que passsa Nennng ... I live in quite an isolated place in Spain and Fortron is one of the few brands at hand (I can also buy somewhat more exotic PSU's from computer modding shops, but at much higher price). Never seen a Seasonic or even a Tagan here. I just went for a 400w Fortron (FSP6...

Hello dartiss. Well, there are two things: first, you pick up an aluminum case. If you do it, don't do it for cooling reasons; don't make my same mistake. There is no strong thermal contact between components and the case (unless we are speaking of things like the Zalman TNN series). So aluminum wil...

Tower style heatink mod

Hiya guys. I am planning to mod my aerocool ht101 heatsink+fan (for those who don't know what I am talking about it is a heatpipe-tower configuration, ala thermaltake silent tower, beetle, sonic tower ...). My problem is said heatsink-fan pulls air from the vga, uses it to cool down the processor an...

Yep, hello guys and thak you for your answers. Yes, my Fortron is the fsp400 model with just one 8 cm fan. Now this is weird, isn't it? the fan should not speed up (I am probably not even asking half the power it can give) and since the thermistor is glued to the aluminum heatsink, an accidental dis...

Without cover, there shouldn't b...

Hello people. As a newbie in computer silencing, I have made a few stupid mistakes that now I am trying to solve after the screw up (did I know better before, I wouldn't be making this question). Well, one of the things I have learnt is that a quiet system is not just going out there and wasting you...
