Nice board, but falls short in one area for me - dual onboard LAN ports.
I am looking for a 430 MCP w/ a 6150 or 6100 that has dual LAN to build an inexpensive Linux server/router.
Anyone know of any?

Does the motherboard (chipset) also have to share the same memory dividers as the CPU? NForce 4 can work with the new dividers, but motherboards may require a BIOS update. Another thing is the AMD 64 chip actually able to saturate the existing 400 DDR bandwidth? Tests show that most desktop applica...

The Venice core has an updated memory controller that supports new memory speed dividers. Some motherboards allow these new timings to be selected: http://www.cooltechzone.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=1210 http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlon64-e3-mem_6.html http://www.an...

From the manufacture
FYI in correspondence with an EBM Papst rep here in the U.S., I received this in an E-mail dated 2005-May-24: "I have just received this information from my factory. The 4412 F/2GLL has no agency approvals. The fan foot print is standard, but the electronics for the motor make this new in the 119mm ...

The Mutemat is 19mm thick, about 16mm too much. I need something that thin when applied. Another idea here: http://www.7volts.com/quieter.htm This site recommends the following: "Where thick carpet padding isn't used because it is too thick, you can use thin rubber (very cheap rubber "welcome" mat)...

Re: Source of heat from HDDs
...the loudest component in my case is a moderately whiny Western Digital harddrive...I plan to partially sandwich it with sound dampening foam, with additional heat being my main concern For an enclosure that also provides good cooling, I like this approach here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/v...

Re: Ed's (Effectively) Silent K8 Rig--Moving Beyond Sigma On
Considering the fact that all the hard drives are in stuck up inside SilentDrive enclosures yet never get past 40C... Ed, Very nice setup, thanks for the report. I want to do something similar to your setup, but with these differences: - use a single 3.5" drive (Samsung SpinPoint P Series HD160JJ –...

Alleycat, I like the combination you came up with for drive silencing. I saw Bluefront's warning about the coolpacks... Bluefront found condensation on his drive. In your case, you have a water tight enclosure. How about putting a couple of moisture absorbing packets (desiccants) in with the drive? ...

Re: Low-power router/file server. Need advice.
I have been wanting to build a router with QOS...My goals are to build a server that consumes maximum 50 watts in idle state... Although you said VIA EPIA was too slow for you, these new products look promising: Via C7 Processor runs at 2 GHz. at 20W peak (0.1 watt idle): http://deviceforge.com/new...

Dual power connectors a byproduct of logic bridge?
The review comments about the WD CAVIAR SE: "FlexPower™ – connector technology that accepts power from both industry-standard and new SATA power supplies. This last feature is a byproduct of using a PATA to SATA logic bridge." I don't know if that is universally true. Although the SATA power connect...
