Ok, so a NO to sticking heatsinks to chips then.

It appears that I am far to worried about the temp of the drive and that 36 is good.

I may still apply the duct (out of interest) to determine what difference it will make to the zalman cooler.

Thanks to all who posted comments.

As an update i have the Zalman HP HDD cooler installed. It seems to create a temperature cap at about 36 degrees. It takes a while to get to this temp but doenst appear to exceed it. I have absolutly no air moving over the drive or cooling device. Thus the zalman cooler is just serving to hold more ...

sanse, Ok not really the response i was expecting, but a valid question non the less. When i removed the drive from the silentbox i check the chips under the drive, and figured that anything hot enough to make me remove my finger...was too hot ? Also, the enclosure heated up the entire drive, every ...

best passive cooler for syspended drive ?

Hey guys, I have just tested the SilentBox from skythe and am going to return it for a passive cooler. My samsung sp2004c got up to 42 degrees inside the device. The heatlane and top plate radiator never really warmed up. So i went back to my syspension (bungie cord) this runs at 32-33degrees idle. ...

Thanks for the reply.

Ok i think i may have understated, by HOT i ment if i leave my finger on the small HS above the NB chipset for more than say 3 seconds my finger will start to burn !

I guess that means that the system temp of 36 degrees doenst represent the chipset ? As it feels more like 60.

Place a paper motherboard mount washer under the screw meant to hold the aluminum shroud, screw it into the board, utilizing the 1mm flange to provide tension. Works like a charm, and the gleaming copper adds more to an open-case view than the industrial looking "OTES" tag IMO. Ok so your holding t...

Try running your machine without an intake fan. I'll be surprised if you need it. I was planning on running the intake on the slowest of slow speeds to keep the HDD cool. I will run some tests and post the results. Using my thermo fingers =) Or maybe that old LianLi fan controller with temp probes....

The front intake grill helps airflow in an SLK3000B. Think of it this way: with higher impedance from the front of the case more (cooler) air is drawn from the TAC vents specifically cooling the hottest components in your machine. I was planning on installing the nexus inbetween the front (plastic)...

I'm no expert but why have you opted for the xp-120? I would have thought a Scythe ninja would have been a perfect candidate for such a project. An XP-120 is excessive for a Venice 3200+ IMO, and a ninja would be even more so. Mines is running under a Zalman 7000B and idles around 41-45ºC in the BI...

Two other things are important to note: 1) Abit temp reporting is notoriously innaccurate so load windows, and run some stress tests (3dmark + cpuburn maybe to stress your system with max heat output?). 2) If the voltage monitor is reporting 1.44 volts to the CPU you may want to consider calling Ab...

Just a note. Many power/energy saving features of CPUs and GPUs require an OS to engage them. So booting into your BIOS or a DOS session runs your CPU and GPU pretty much at full load. Not necessarily CPU burn loads, but definitly not idle. My GPU gets rather hot when installing Windows. After inst...

hello spcr crew, I have a problem with CPU temperatures of my new system. This system is based on Edward Ng's sigma 2 (see link below). Its a 2 fan system that uses negative air pressure to draw air in via the CAG and over an xp120 to cool the CPU. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=22...
