If it is dirty then polishing will make a difference but out of the box and clean, not even slightly noticable.

And I wouldn't modify the base of the heat sink, they design it that way for a reason, it allows more surface area to contact the thermal conpound between the heatsink and CPU.

That is normal, PSUs after all are switching power supplies, that is just one of their quirks.

That sounds like a temp sensor malfunction, at 88*C (or 121*C for that matter!) your CPU would cook, I can almost guarantee it!* And if the CPU went from 121* to 39* in the few seconds it takes to soft reset and get into the BIOS it would probably have been damaged by the rapid cooling because of di...

Get your SLK3000-B at amazon, it is $43 there right now and has free shipping. And save some money on other things too, a gig of RAM would be nice and you don't need something as powerful as a 6600 if you don't plan on gaming. You should get a 5950 or something in that range.

Yes and no, I'm new here but not to the quiet computer scene. I just keep seeing this fan and wondered what it was. I've heard of Nexus fans and even own one but I didn't know the orange fan was one.

Yet another SLK3000-B system! A fine choice of case and components! One question, what make/model is that orange fan that everyone seems to be using?

Nice! It seems alot of people put noise dampening foam in their case doors, not just me :lol: CD/DVD drives are noisy! And your "assumed" airflow path looks correct to me... I think your PSU should stay plenty cool! And as for the CRT buzz, there is really no way to fix that other than to get a bett...

I like it! The rounded shape will improve airflow and it is just plain pretty!

It would be oxymoronic to put my fast PC in the snail-like case :lol:

Only problem is that my SCSI doesn't fit in those stupid sideways HDD bays :x

<EDIT>

Those benching apps either don't work well with SCSI or are total garbage, they gave my ATA133 Drive marks 3x higher than my SCSI drive. Well, I know that's wrong so I won't let it worry me.

I certainly agree with Mike, I seriously doubt your PC is making even a small difference in your room temperature. Mine sure doesn't and it runs a steamy 56*C (132*F) CPU temp and 38*C (100*F) case temp under full load.

Your temps are nothing to worry about unless they are within 7-10*C of the max operating temperature. My CPU idles higher than yours goes full load!

And 40*C toasty?! Who told you that, that is cool for a CPU!

My full load temp is 56*C, idle 40*C...
