lenny and all, SUCCESS!!! I got a POST. I have a customer who builds PCs and he lent me a P4 CPU. I stuck it in and it POSTed fine. I flashed the Bios with EZ Flash, replaced the P4 with the CT-479 and Pentium M, and it POSTed again. I am in the midst of formatting drives and installing XP. Thanks s...

I don't fell right buying a P4 with the intent to use it and return it. So, I am looking for the least expensive CPU that will work. The Asus manual states that he P4P800SE does not support unlocked Willamette CPUs, so that rules out the slower/cheaper Celerons. Any suggestions? Celeron 2.0 is the s...

lenny and all, lenny's links pointing to the need for a std P4 first, update BIOS, then install adapter appear to be the only way. Tonight I disconnected all of the non-critical pieces as suggested, reset the CMOS, and tried again. No Beeps No POST. So then I remembered I have a new DEll PC sitting ...

Michael, I think I am fine with what I did. It was for less than 10 seconds. Also, the computer shuts itself down when the processor gets too hot. Anyway, it behaves the same way after the feel test as before. IT seems to power up, spin things but no POST. I am pretty sure I need to put in a standar...

lenny, I did connect the power to the CT-479 and verify the jumpers. No offense taken. The links you found don't look good for my situation. I find it frustrating to think I need another processor to boot first and then update. I was hoping the Asus EZ Flash would work. I'll try it tonight while try...

lenny, Thanks for sticking with me. Sorry for my confusion on the reset the CMOS. Will do. Also, I did find out how to use one stick of RAM and will do. Did I test the speaker? No. It's just the case mounted thing with the case connector all part of the Antec slk3000B. I don't realy know how I might...

The mother board manual only discusses clearing the CMOS memory by removing the battery, not which chip it is on the board to allow me to re-seat it. Also, yes, I do have the speaker connected. I have tried it several ways given the poor matching between the Asus manual and the Antec connector suppl...

Lenny and IsaacKuo, Thanks for the replies. Yes, the P4P800SE was one of the first Asus supported boards for the CT-479. It does require a BIOS upgrade which is performed with an Asus utility during the boot-up, but I need to get that far first. I will strip it down like you all suggested. But I do ...

Newby, 1st PC build, NO POST success
Greetings and thank you for so much great information on this site. I am trying to build my first PC to be used for audio recording in a one-room studio. So very quiet to silent is the goal. I have: - Asus P4P800SE motherboard, - Asus CT-479 Pentium M adapter, - Intel Pentium M 730 1.6 Ghz 533 FSB p...
