Nice build. The Liteon DVD looks like a pretty good colour match in the photos, although they can sometimes be misleading. Is it a pretty good match in real life too?

Pity the only way to view the Zalman display is by putting it at that strange angle though.

If I can get some undervoltage controls, I'll probably just stick with this one. The best thing I've used is RMClock - it has allowed me to undervolt my S939 Opteron 146 by 0.2V while at the same time overclock it by 20%. Unfortunately I cannot get the current release (2.3) to work on my system (it...

Nice build. I have a kinda generic question for you - why did you go for a black DVD-RW instead of silver? Was it because it's difficult to get a silver drive that actually matches the colour of the 2480? Edit: One other thing - you mention a AMD A64 x2 3800+ Windsor, 65W, but the photo shows a 5000...

You don't give any details about the PC components, but if it's possible to undervolt the CPU you will generate less heat from it, and reduce the load on the PSU allowing you to use a slower fan in it.

Nice work.

Is that a full size Ninja, or the mini-version. Also, I guess you're using an external optical drive?

My quiet "antiquated" system...

Been a long time lurker and got a lot of inspiration from the folks here at SPCR, but never really got round to having the digi camera out with the PC opened. Truth be told, the PC doesn't figure as high in my agenda anymore (hence the dust), but anyway here it is. Details are as follows: Antec SLK3...

I believe this is actually based on a laptop motherboard, so you would expect it to be relatively quiet. Oh, and absolutely no expandabilty options (other than USB and laptop memory).

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not sure that suspending it will do much to be honest. By using the thick foam block and elastic I've already completely eliminated all seek noise. The sound issue I have is a constant hum which appears to come directly from the bearing / motor a bit like a noisy fan...

Any way to silence a humming Spinpoint?

I've had the Samsung Spinpoint for just over a year now - about a month after I bought it, I started to get a humming sound from it. Today I finally got round to "suspending" it using a thick block of foam and some elastic. The seek noise is totally inaudible now which is great, however it has done ...

Hiper have one that's only 53mm high. You obviously need to use a low profile HSF, but they accept standard uATX boards. You are limited to one AGP or PCIe slot via a riser (I believe only AGP riser is supplied with it - PCIe can be bought seperately). Power supply is 200W. I'm not sure about prices...

A simpler method is to gently prise the plastic housing from around the 2-pin connector on the gfx card (it simply pulls straight off, but be careful). Then simply plug the 3-pin connector straight onto this making sure black goes to where the original black was and red to red. White (yellow in my c...

Enable Cool & Quiet in BIOS, install RMClock (you may also need to install the AMD Cool & Quiet driver). Finally, undervolt to your heart's content.

AM2 HTPC build - Heatsink recommendations please

I'm contemplating an HTPC build using the Abit NF-M2 mobo and Antec NSK2400 case. I believe my preferred choice of cooler (Scythe Ninja) is too tall for the case. I also considered the Zalman 7700, but I don't believe it has been updated for the AM2 socket. Any recommendations on a good cooler that ...

Nice job, but it looks like you had a few slips of the drill when opening out those holes.

Bear in mind for future mods that drilling from the other side will mean that any slips are not visible ;)

How far have you underclocked it? With my old Leadtek 6800NU (with stock massive copper heatsink and a 120mm @ 5V strapped on it) I used to underclock the core to 85 in 2D mode. It used to drop the temps to around 36C at idle.

With my current 7900GT, there's no need!

Other than Shuttle, not really. Or at least that I have found.

Most of the Intel ones are based upon an Intel chipset of some description with the "Extreme" graphics.

I know what you mean though - it'd be nice to be able to get an AMD SFF barebones based on nForce 3 or 4.

ASUS T2-AE1 Reviews?

I see that ASUS have a new S754 barebones system out. It's the T2-AE1 - nice looking piece of kit which supports C&Q. Could make a nice quiet system. It's reasonably priced too. Has anyone come across any reviews for it yet? I tried Googling, but all I get is links to thousands of retailers selling ...
