Re: Define R5 review

While I love the case overall, I don't like how it is compromised to appeal to users of all types. This goes for many other cases on the market as well. 1. Appealing to power users that need ample cooling means compromises on quiet front (and also vice versa) 2. Appealing to watercooling users means...

Need help optimizing my NAS/Mediaserver PC for low power.

I built a fairly beefy system for NAS/mediaserving purposes. It has a Core i5-4590S with 8gb of ram and 6 mechanical hard drives in a Fractal Node 304 case. My uses include Plex, Madsonic (music streaming), several newsgroup clients, and basic file sharing. With a single drive, i was able to get 30 ...

Re: Looking for small footprint Mini-ITX case that holds 6 H

This Logic Supply case looks promising. Couple that with a an ASRock C2750D4I and you could do 12 drives, although cabling and power would be a nightmare. That's the right depth, but its much to wide. I'm looking for more of a tower form factor with minimal footprint, instead of the wide htpc/vcr s...

Re: Looking for small footprint Mini-ITX case that holds 6 H

I'm very short on shelf space, so having the computer horizontally will not be feasible. However, i do have an unlimited amount of headspace, so a tall case would be good. This is would be a perfect size, but it only fits THREE 3.5" HDDs - http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=291&area=en Sh...

Re: Looking for small footprint Mini-ITX case that holds 6 H

It's just frustrating because i want to build NAS that is of comparable size to prebuilt NAS; at least in the depth department.

The LIAN LI PC-Q07 is actually the perfect footprint, but only holds a couple of HDDs. If they just made it a few inches taller, it wouldn't have a problem holding 6 HDD's.

Looking for small footprint Mini-ITX case that holds 6 HDDs

I'm looking for a small foot print Mini-ITX case that has a small footprint (12" depth or smaller), yet has the ability to hold 6 3.5" HDD or more. I want it to be able to fit on my slim bookshelf. The thing is that a Mini-ITX motherboard is a mere 6.7 x 6.7 in, yet I don't understand why almost all...

Re: Fractal Design Node 304 Mini-ITX Case

It is - and the cooling is good enough to handle the full six. That said, you just need to be aware when picking a motherboard, that some Mini-ITX ones have 4 SATA ports only: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Z87-H87-H81-Q87-Q85-B85-What-is-the-difference-473/ Also space is fairly tight in...

Asrock Z68 Extreme boards have four controllable fan headers (3 from SpeedFan, 4 from BIOS/UEFI). Thanks for the info. How you liking your Asrock z68 btw? Best z68 motherboard for fan managment?

I'm a big fan of the old abit uGuru system and any fan management system that lets you twealk fan voltage w/ the ability to auto-adjust based on temperature of each component. This allows me to set-and-forget the fans for optimal cooling sort of speak. Are these pretty much standard features right n...

Try the Arctic Cooling F9 fan. They have a smaller center like the Slipstreams, which gives you more cfm per rpm compared to most other 92mm fans, and they are fluid ball bearing instead of sleeve which means they'll last longer than the Slipstream. They're available in PWM and nonPWM versions and a...

Thanks for the suggestion. . It seems to be made for cooling radiators due to its great static pressure. Seems mighty expensive for a fan though ($30+).

Thick 38mm vs 25mm fans?

We know that going with a larger slow spinning fan generally results in better airflow/noise performance, due to more surface area and less rpm required. But what about going with a thicker fan? I'm looking for a really good case fan that can move a lot of air at low RPMs. Would going with 38mm be a...

Kind've a dumb question. Due to it's unique design, I wasn't able to figure this out. I had assumed that it is an exhaust fan, but want to be 100% sure before buying one.

Also, any thoughts of the af12pro as an case exhaust fan is welcomed.

What I'm trying to accomplish here is to inform people that you cant just mount a flat surface vreg / VRM-cooler directly over the VRM:s, without taking the other components into consideration. Pads are the easy way (that's why it's used by the manufacturer), but if you want to use a thin layer of ...

Ok now you need to start reading and stop assuming things. ;) I've never said that they need cooling. I said that they interfere with a normal flat heatsink, making the thermal conductivity bad. Thats it :) The reason why 4870 / 58xx / 5970 uses the Volterra setup is due to their ability to be soft...

I have the 5850, S1 rev2, and VRM-4 in hand and will try a passive solution over the weekend.

Do you guys think that the S1 alone is good enough to cool the GPU passively? (assuming that there are no problems with the VRM)

Passively, as in no fan nearby blowing directly at the heatsink.

Probably not without bending the heat pipes.
