7v or 5v antec trispeed?
Hi all- I just received a couple of the new generation of trispeeds from the P180. They're a little too loud for my taste even when on the low setting. Has anyone 7v or 5v's these things? I like the choice for three speeds, but want the lowest to be lower than it is now. Any problems with doing so? ...

Possible to disable cpu fan speed requirement on emachines p
Hi all - I just received an old emachines computer for free, and I think it's a good candidate for an htpc. 1GB ram, 2.0GHz celeron, mATX ff. Anyway, my first task at hand is to replace the cpu fan with something quieter. It is a 60mm fan that spins at 3k rpm all the time, and is LOUD. The problem i...

Try Zalman's heatsink or the Stasis IceStorm to increase cooling efficiency. Then use Expertool or Rivatuner to modify fanspeed. The reason I suggest getting a new heatsink is that reducing fanspeed while using the stock heatsink can result in pretty high temps... Try reducing fan speed alone, and s...

Modern gpu's are more tolerant of heat than cpu's are... My 6600GT goes from 42C to 55C, but they can take pretty high temps. Your card has to be the source of your crashes. Try taking off the heatsink and putting it back on. And yeah the combination of passive 6600gt and ninja will trap a ton of he...

Congrats on moving your build pretty successfully towards cool and quiet! The cpu temp that you have seems a tad high, but not dangerous IMO. Are you still considering putting an undervolted Nexus on the Ninja? It would surely be inaudible with the x800 et al. in there, but would focus your cpu cool...

Any of the 6600GT AGP's can be VERY quiet when using Expertool (google it, i think it's a gainward script). It gives you full control over fan speed. With a little alteration of the script, you can go down to 0% fan speed! Normally I think it goes down to 50%. So, more important than quiet, is how w...

This isn't necessarily a fix for your situation, as I don't own a Ninja and don't know the ins and outs, but the Antec P150 lends itself rather well to using a Ninja fanless, only using the back Tricool and the psu fan to cool it. Have you tried that config? I don't know alot about your cpu, but I'd...

Heat dissipation won't be a problem behind your case since all of the surface area involved has access to air at ambient room temperature, so don't mess with the foil. I also wouldn't mess with the rubbery stuff since dense material is usually used to stop vibrational noise, and that won't be a prob...

I like the current scheme as the case is geared towards functionality and classic form rather than bling. But all the votes for all black?? I wouldn't touch it. I voted for all silver, as I'd like something that can join my pile of A/V equipment in my study...I know there are plenty of other options...

In my opinion, it's much easier to build a quiet system from scratch, instead of trying to quiet down lots of original components. This is especially true for you, since newer processors (A64, Pentium M) offer dynamic voltage control. Getting a program like CrystalCPUID will give you tons of control...

^^^That's right. I undervolted my last A64 pretty significantly, which helped keep my thermally controlled fan at ~900 rpms, which was pretty quiet. Doing it to my laptop's P-M made it a nearly completely passively cooled cpu, and extended battery life. Undervolting will not adversely affect perform...

My laptop has a P-M proc with speedstep, and it runs REALLY cool. Almos entirely passive within a laptop, which is nice. I know that doesn't directly compare with your options, but I suggest you look into the dissipated heat for both, and unless they differ by >20w, go for the one with speedstep. St...

Every heatsink that surpasses the weight limit for AMD and Intel boards comes with a reinforcing backplate. In fact, a lot of heatsinks that don't need them still come with them. That being said, I have a pretty heavy heatsink (760g) without a backplate, and there's no problem. I even shipped it Fed...

If the circuit is open, then no electricity is flowing. You're fine. I did the same thing with my PSU, and it got a little warmer, but I set it in bios to vary in speed with CPU temp, which is kind of a poor man's way of making it speed up with load. Don't worry too much about temps unless you start...

The only thing wrong with your system is that you didn't mention ordering two of everything so you can send one to me! Seriously though, looks really sweet. I personally would go for 1GB of faster ram, but I don't do any heavy modeling or rendering. AFAIK, on that mobo, running 4 DIMMs will reset the memory controller to 333MHz with a 2t command rate, which will give you a pretty big hit in performance. That being said, that hit is probably less than th...

As far as the duct goes, you made a good choice removing the stock one. As far as replacing it, you get the fun of designing your own! It's not necessary to have one, or to plug the exhaust, depending on your airflow. Every system is different, so the best advice is to play around and see what works...

You can use the PVR150 to encode your cable (or whatever you want to iput to your HTPC), but you can't use it to decode to an external source. That means that your setup with a PVR150 and integrated graphics will work fine if you are using a PC monitor to view the output and to control the system. I...
