Re: Question about watercooling

A 980 will not be silent. You have even more reading if you get a GTX 980. They are pretty loud. I don't really game on this PC so I went with a GTX 960, 4GB. I read lots and lots of reviews on the 970 and 960. I ended up with an MSI with twin frozr. On light loads the fans do not spin up. 0 RPM. Ma...

Re: Question about watercooling

You need fans that have enough pressure to push, pull or push/pull to get through the radiator. I have 4X4 Noctua NF-P14s 140mm Redux 1500 PWM Push/Pull. http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=86&lng=en I have an NZXT Kraken X61 280mm on an overclocked Haswell-E, i7-5820K. If you...

Re: GTX 960 review compilation thread

I picked up the MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G over the weekend and like it a lot. No fans spin when no load. Has a backplate. I am very happy with the overall build quality. Installed in a Fractal R5. Has Afterburner and MSI Gaming App. Both I found useful. I was also able to remove a video cable as unlike ...

Re: Problem wiring case fans to motherboard-need help (fract

^^^
They are pretty darn quiet. There is a 5v option on the built-in fan controller. If you need more airflow, bump it up to 7v. At least try them. I know someone who ordered a third one and he could have ordered anything else and he chose to stick with the Fractal ones.

Re: NZXT Kraken X61 28cm Liquid Cooler

So what are you trying to cool? Two fans or four? There are 4 fan connectors on the X61. If you just use two fans, make sure the PWM 4 pin connector is attached to a fan. I have a total of four Noctua SSO Bearing Fan Retail Cooling NF-P14s Redux-1500 PWM. I have the X61 mounted in the bottom front. ...

Re: NZXT Kraken X61 28cm Liquid Cooler

So silly me. Part of RealTemp is RealTemp GT which monitors all 6 cores. Interestingly enough, it and CAM are reporting temps that match. Instead of the 10 degree difference.

Re: NZXT Kraken X61 28cm Liquid Cooler

I forgot how much more work there is doing a transplant than building from scratch. (Cleaning TIM off chip, etc). Pros: It's as quiet as the X41 was. No rattling or weird noises It barely fit in the front of the new R5 with the optical drive left in place. In the second 5.25 bay I mounted a 2.5" dri...

Re: NZXT Kraken X61 28cm Liquid Cooler

Okay, I'm back over in this thread! Why? Because I picked up the X61 and a Fractal R5 tonight. The X41 wasn't going to cut it with a modest OC. It was very quiet and I hope there are no issues with this one as Micro Center has only one left in stock. It would probably be fine as a CPU cooler o...

Re: Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I read a lot about the various connectors and apparently so have you. Success! I had already downloaded the latest CAM software. So I was ready to go. Installed fine and came right up after a required reboot. Windows found everything it needed and everything is fine in Device Manager. It is bloated ...

Re: Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I googled 3 pin to 4 pin, then started drilling down. I haven't done much with the BIOS as I knew I'd be replacing this cooler so I only turned off obvious stuff. Part of my preparation was to check the fan settings. Then I started poking around to make sure there wasn't some auto fan setting or som...

Re: Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I am back up. The problem was in the UEFI BIOS. I had it set to PWM. When set to PWM that 4th pin has to connect. So by putting my old cooler back, which has a 4 pin, I was able to boot into the BIOS and change it. I am almost certain that's all there is to it. I am pretty darn good at wiring stuff ...

Re: Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I got everything connected and now my PC won't even boot. The Kraken comes with a 3 pin power connector. I have a 4 pin header on my motherboard. I checked many times to make sure only the PWM wire was exposed. I am going to pull the pump and put the other cooler on. It has to be something in the BI...

Re: Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I'm making progress. First problem is that R4 fans just snap into a bracket. So there was nothing to mount the rad to. Tried to mount it on top exhaust and it was all but on my GPU. So I took the long screw and pushed it through the Noctua fan in the bracket and there was just a few threads on...

Re: Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I'm making very slow progress. Phone calls, neighbor came by. I had to remove the heatsink/fan, clean the chip off, wipe the dust away from under where the PSU sat, etc. Plus, routing my cables through the back panel is going to take some time. The 24 pin connector and 12 pin ATX were hard to remove...

Okay, I won't edit my previous post. :P One thing that made swapping everything out easy was the Asus Q-connector. I LOVE it. I am pretty old and it's perfect! It was hard to visualize it but in practice it's slick. Mine is black and slightly different. The panel header is always last to wire and by...

Re: Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I will do more digging around as I can do a push/pull but it may get a bit tricky and I would have to replace my front Fractal fan. All 3 case fans are Fractal and currently run off the fan controller. I don't know what the math is. As in, it would increase cooling by what percent? Thanks for the An...

Yes, it's misleading due to the number of posts and really off topic as I am on a quest and can't fit the X61.

Kraken x41: is It Enough?

I have spent very long hours everyday researching every 240mm radiator on the US market and even one not available in the US, the Fractal Kelvin S24. Seriously considered importing it, but because Fractal has yet to respond to my query of almost a week, I could end up stuck if anything went wrong or...

Re: NZXT Kraken X61 28cm Liquid Cooler

I think this thread needs to be moved to the WC section. The Amazon link is great. I know outlet power is 240v there for a PSU, but does that translate elsewhere? From the PSU, would SATA power be the same? Motherboard CPU fan ports power the same? I would think it would be, but not sure and haven't...

Re: NZXT Kraken X61 28cm Liquid Cooler

I need to read more reviews. But for the moment the Cooler Master Nepton 240M may be quiet enough. 5 year warranty. In this You Tube video it's compared to the Kraken X61 temp wise. Not sure what his methodology is though. He spends a lot of time with talking about other stuff so move to where he ac...
