You can use both a normal 4-pin or the 8-pin EPS connector (if you have one). The 8-pin EPS connector provides more stable power delivery, but the CPU will be happy with just the 4-pin. There should have been a cover of some sort for the extra pin holes - the cover came with my P5B Deluxe. Hope that...

Funny enough, I tend to get better idle temperatures with the side panel closed than when it's opened on the P180. I guess I've got the windtunnel effect happening inside with the upper chamber intake and exhaust fans moving at 7V speeds. Plus it's much more quiet with the side panel on....

Thanks to everyone for responding. Just to clarify, I have only connected the 3-pin; the modded molex is not plugged into the PSU at all (but thanks for the warning anyways!) And I think both cpemma nd wim are right, it looks as though my nexus is still running at 12V, so I'll have to revert back to...

Question about 7-volting a fan

Recently I did the 7V mod on a Nexus 120mm but instead of connecting the modded 4-pin molex directly to the power supply, I connected the 3-pin fan connector directly to the motherboard. Is that safe, or will I end up blowing up something?? Thx.

S12-430 does not have a PCIe power adaptor. If you want to run a 7800GT, you'll need to use an adaptor that takes up 2 molex plugs. Th S12-500 has 2 PCIe connectors (it's rated for SLI by nVidia). So it depends on which way you want to go. I've got both a 430 and the 500 and both are great. Cheers

When I first got the 4000 I was quite pleasantly surprised by the absence of sharp clicking from the keys. Now I can hear myself think when I type... My only peeves about the 4000 are 1) the sticky space bar, which unfortunately IMO is the worst space bar I've ever used - even worse than the cheapie...

I switched from an S12-430 (first revision) to the S12-500 RevA2. As far as I can tell, no low frequency noise. Also, there was no increase in any noise whatsoever going from the 430 to the 500, but that's probably because the Nexus 120mm (going at 12v) drowns out any other wind noise. BTW, my case ...

Hi mbx1 The "telescoping" guide is the Chassis Air Guide, designed to allow your CPU HSF to draw outside air in to cool the processor. Typically, if you're using the guide, it's not necessary to add an 80mm fan - the HSF (along with the duct) is good enough to keep the processor cool. However, if yo...

Skazz, The elastic band that I used was around 1 mm thick as well, but it was the "fat" type that covers the entire metal lip. I secured the elastic strips using 2-sided tape so that the strips won't shift around. The other thing that I did was to not secure the hard drives too tightly onto the HDD ...

Skazz, I had the same problem with my 3000B. I use it as a HTPC, so I was quite annoyed by the resonance when it should be quiet. Anyways, my cheap solution was to place small pieces of elastic bands on the horizontal metal pieces that the hard drives rest on, and it pretty much took care of the res...

Weird problem w/ my VGA Silencer!

I recently bought the VGA Silencer Rev3 for my 9800Pro. Worked great as advertised for almost a month. One day, came back to my computer after dinner and poof - nothing on the screen anymore! Silencer Fan still running, but no signal at all. So I swapped out the 9800Pro with a AIW 9800Pro, computer ...

Sorry, no pix, but here's a description: The HDD LEDs are located to the right of the Reset and Power buttons when looking at the case from the front; they're usually not visible when the door is closed. The Power LED is located above the USB/FireWire connection; it's a small circular point. All the...

Asus QuieTrack

I bought an Asus E616-P3 recently and I can barely hear anything from this drive. My old Pioneer DVD drive used to spin up like a jet engine and now there's nothing - only the flashing LED tells me that there's a DVD spinning inside.

Check power

Don't mean to sound condescending, but the 1st rule of thumb for tech support I learned is to check to see if the PSU switch is "on", and whether or not the PSU cable is connected properly into the PSU and/or the wall socket. You'd be surprised at how many tech calls are solved this way... Cheers Ju...
