Re: Quiet-ish build with a Shuttle XPC SH67H3

The SH67H7 is not officially available in Australia either, however they are still easy to find if you go away from the major retailers. Most computer stores around here seem to be gray importers direct from Asia. I would be seriously surprised if you couldn't source one. You really don't want the S...

Re: Quiet-ish build with a Shuttle XPC SH67H3

Go for the SH67H7 over the H3, its the same internals with a much nicer case and should only be $20 more. http://au.shuttle.com/products/productsDetail?productId=1549 As for components, get a normal 2500 or 2400 (K's will not work on the H67 chipset), 8GB ram, a 120GB+ SSD and a 2TB green drive that...

Re: Seagate Momentus XT: The Best of Both Worlds?

Time has moved on, the SSD caching on the Z68 chipset removes the need for hybrid drives. It functions better and removes several of the downsides e.g. you can defrag. There are already a few desktop motherboards shipping with a 20GB SSD installed and a few laptops that contain the prerequisite hard...

Re: Atom VS Pentium 4 - IT IS ON!

My 2 cents. I run the following 2 PC's at home and a Windows Home Server box. Each has a single Dell 2005FPW (1680x1050) monitor + bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The PC's are literally next to each other which makes comparisons easy. Both are running Kapersky Internet Security Suite 2010 and Windows ...

Being a POW = Not a hero

Being given the opportunity to leave by your captors (due to family status) and CHOOSING to stick to the military's Code of Conduct in regards to the order of prisoner release = close to Hero.

At least that's sort of comparable to 720p.
No its not, its not wide enough to display 720p. So you get squished with bars, you get bars with normal SD formats (pal and ntsc).

Its a bloody useless resolution for a TV.

If your going to run integrated graphics the 780G and 790GX boards seem to get a ~30% boost from a Phenom compared to an X2.

I could understand 1366x768 being marketed as "720p", since it's more larger than 1280x720...but this 1080p thing is simply deceptive. Its better than the 1024x1024 plasma TV's that are being marketed as 720p. Just look at all the mess out there. http://advancedvisualdesign.com.au/products/visualdi...

Spend $10 and get a IDE to USB external case and use the drives as a backup.

I've got 1 case and about 10 drives as backup, some get copied to and left at family members houses in case something really bad happens. Its good for things like wedding photos, etc.

Both Gigabyte and Powercolour have passive versions of the card (2 slots).

Also the reference designs for the 710 (4550?) are both passive (full and half height). The card has 80SP units, 64bit memory full video acceleration with a TDP of <25w.

At least wait a week and check out the new ATI mid range cards.

4670 ~= 3850 in performance, and has a max of 75w (probably less, but it has no external power plug to go any higher).

You should try being in Oz.

I had a faulty 965-DQ6 and my options where return to the place of purchase which would only give me a swap for another "fixed" RMA board OR post the board to Gigabyte in Taiwan, wait a couple of months and pay the return postage costs.

But will continued high temps decrease the longevity of the video card. More than likely. Maybe, but there is a usable life cycle as well, which with PC components is short, 5 to 10 years at best. I had a passive 9550 (now running in a relatives PC) since about when they came out (about 5 years ago...

Undervolt your CPU, Shuttle motherboards are normally very good at undervolting. I've got my 3500+ at 1.2v load vs 1.35v default and 0.9 idle vs 1.1v default. This drops the case temps by ~20c at load.

btw which Shuttle do you have?
